This Alicia’s fourth recording, offers a collection of chants and heartsongs that will inspire you to sing along in many moods. Each chant calls forth a different element to celebrate life. “Grandmother Ocean” is a powerful affirmation to sing standing on the shore affirming the tides and waves within ourselves.” Rising Sun” confirms our connection to each new day. “Thank You spirit” gives heartfelt gratitude for the presence of something greater in our lives which guides our path. “Womb of the Mother Goddess”
celebrates the link we all have with the earth mother.
Interweaving through all these chants are influences of the native American, Sufi and Celtic traditions which Alicia embraces. Her musician songwriting friends, Lisa Thiel and Alice DiMecele added vocals which provide a richer folk/gospel sound. The arrangements are acoustically based with Alicia playing piano,guitar and banjo. Alicia’s strong yet gentle vocals have been described as prayers floating upward to great spirit.
As a child, I would don a wine red velvet cape as I spontaneously moved and sounded to classical music in the living room. Letting the music lift me out of my body to the realms of the divine, I danced and sang with an open flying heart. My childhood bathtub concerts were also memorable as I combined my love of water and sound by making up songs while I happily created waves in the bathtub.
These childhood loves of music, dance, sound, play and water have shaped my life. I am a Sound and Vocal Medicine Guide, Ceremonial Facilitator, Dances of Universal Peace Leader (better known as Sufi Dancing), Universal Life Minister, Dervish Healing Order member, Sun Priestess and Bubbles the Clown.
Feeling the music bubbling inside, I wrote heart songs and new dances of Universal Peace. Wanting to accompany my vocals, I learned to play banjo, dulcimer, guitar and piano adding Balinese flute and kazoo to my growing musical abilities.
My first recording Opening was released in 1982. That was so much fun and empowering, it was followed in the next 15 years by Emergence, Trusting and Simple Gifts. I love to share my knowledge of voice, banjo, piano, and guitar by teaching others. I also enjoy studying, experimenting, and teaching vocal and sound medicine.
