Gregg Lee Henry’s song THE BACK OF YOUR HAND, (on Gregg Lee Henry II) was a hit for Dwight Yoakam , and the first single on his POPULATION ME album. It was #1 on CMT for 5 weeks, and is included CMT’s greatest hits, and THE VERY BEST OF DWIGHT YOAKAM.
Gregg Henry is better known as an actor, and recently starred as Hugh Panetta in THE RICHES on FX, as well as in the films PAYBACK, SLITHER, UNITED 93 and BODY DOUBLE. He performed his song YOU THE ONE, (on You The One), on an episode of THE RICHES.
This new CD, HEAVY LIFTING, produced by Bruce Greenwood, (also better known as an actor STAR TREK, DOUBLE JEOPARDY, 13 DAYS) is a more produced effort than the previous ones with Greenwood playing guitars, and Henry adding E piano, organ, and bass.
As usual there are a number of different genres on the CD. Henry spent the first half year of his time in Los Angeles in a soul band, so there is a tip of the hat to 70’s R&B, on the track THIS IS ALL WE ARE. An effort in the vein of the great John Prine with the track SLIDESHOW, and some rockin’ country with the track I’M GONNA LOSE YOU, and country ballads, with the tracks I THANK HEAVEN, and COME AND GONE, and BY MY SIDE. THIS IS MY BODY, was written on spec for the series JOHN FROM CINCINNATI, which starred Bruce Greenwood.
