Jim’s latest CD, “Night of a Thousand Years”, was released in June 2009 in San Francisco. Jim Butler performs in San Francisco regularly with his own quartet and with Blue Note recorded drummer Donald “Duck” Bailey.

Jim attempts to fuse elements he finds in his travels in the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Africa into his modern jazz quartet music. His musical influences are John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hector Villa-Lobos, Maurice Ravel, and lately West African music.
