Someone once described the Tevellus sound as-Egypt in the year 2185. A space age gypsy caravan. A blend of the ancient and the futuristic. Tevellus is a group from Providence,Rhode Island performing a hybrid of middle eastern belly dance music,hip-hop,raga-roll,electronica,film and dance.
Tevellus was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Autumn 2005. Tevellus originally started as a duo. Derrick Cordeiro(guitar) and Glenn Alexander (drums). In the 90s, the two had played music in the same circle of friends, although, never in the same band. Playing mostly rock. Fast forward to 2005- Glenn and Derrick meet up again and decide to https://www.tradebit.coms time with electronic percussion instead of drums and 12 string acoustic instead of electric guitar. Middle eastern, raga and hip-hop are the sounds that come out of the amplifiers. Since it''s humble duo beginnings, Tevellus has grown to feature keyboards,bass ,percussion,flute and various other horn,reed and string players. also employing guest vocalist,poets,MC''s,beatboxers--even the didjeridoo-are a part of the show. The Tevellus sound now resides somewhere between Istanbul and Havana...Baliwood and Brooklyn...Machu Pichu and Mars....and yes ......there will be dancing---another highlight of the Tevellus show is the amazing dancers-specializing in tribal/belly fusion and fire dance, all performed in front of a backdrop of film.
