From Kent, England, These Matches Won’t light in the Damp releases his debut record, Throw My Ashes into the Fire, which encapsulates his melancholic style; every song unique in their own way yet glazed with an eerie atmosphere, luring the listener to feel the emotions stitched deep into each piece.
Strongly influenced by Elliott Smith, Hayden and most notably, A Silver Mt. Zion, he abandons the typical verse-chorus-verse structure, in favour of haunting, minimal layered guitar riffs, accompanied with dark, open tales on suicide, unrequited love and people trafficking.
With only an acoustic guitar, These Matches Won’t Light in the Damp allows no chance to get swamped in over-produced tracks, whilst also providing a concept of recording that could potentially further incorporate his post-rock influences in future releases.
