"I just want to spread positivity through my music," says singer/songwriter Chris Gordon who, at merely 19 years old, has created a solo project and released two albums under the title The Summer Circuit. "I want people to hear one of my songs and think, ''There are so many things to be happy about.''" Hailing from the Pocono Mountains, Gordon picked up a guitar at 14 and quickly explored a range of musical stylings, finally landing at his current acoustic electronica sound. His songs are noted for their optimistic tone and infectious rhythms that, when blended with heartfelt lyrics, leave listeners feeling inspired. His youthful approach works on multiple levels by either reaffirming feelings for people his age, or evoking nostalgia for those who have outgrown such a simple outlook on life and love.
Gordon''s latest release, "City of Love," documents in sound his transition from high school to college at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where he is currently majoring in Music Industry. These songs address more mature issues than previous albums, but still stay true to his nature with their positive spin. "I don''t want to act like everything is always perfect and nothing can ever go wrong," says Gordon. "I just want to take the negativity and acknowledge the good things that may come of it."
Though his taste in music ranges from heavy metal to doo-wop and everything in between, Gordon praises Bryce Avary of The Rocket Summer as his strongest influence. The two artists share themes of love, life, and happiness while mirroring each other in musical tone and style. Beyond this, Gordon hopes to reflect PlayRadioPlay! and John Mayer, two other musical influences. In addition to writing and performing his songs, Gordon is responsible for the production (recording and mixing) of each individual track He stresses the importance of production as a part of the musical process and hopes to convey not only a direct theme through words, but a "feel" to the song, created by paying close attention to the way it is presented.
"City of Love" offers a lighthearted response to the classic "best years of your life" stage of youth and is a direct reflection of the artist behind the songs.
