Created for today, these songs and beats are contemporary musical colors.

PopJazzic is Christopher Lehman’s first solo release of his original material on one recording.

PopJazzic is 2 original vocals and 8 original instrumental songs created especially for you, the listener, to entertain you, enrich you and satisfy your musical passion. PopJazzic music is contemporary and lives in the African-American Spiritual Tradition. Many musical styles, Blues, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Swing, Soul, Caribbean, R & B and more influence PopJazzic. The melodies are catchy, the solos are tonal and the musical experience has an uplifting energy. PopJazzic is not heavy, nor is it light; but the recordings certainly have a gutsy, spirited tenacity.

The PopJazzic Aural Experience is for Everyone; the Young and the Young at Heart.

Mr. Lehman states:

“Without compromise PopJazzic is the recording I intended to create. Relating to you how very pleased I am with PopJazzic, doesn’t begin to say most it. I love this recording and know you will, too. Having wrote the songs, arranged the music, produced the recording, sat in on each and every moment of the mix and previewed the tracks in various forms, countless times; you would imagine that one would eventually be exhausted of listening to it. Believe it or not, I haven’t tired a bit. ‘Each time I listen again, the PopJazzic recordings are as vibrant and as fresh as the first time ever I heard it.’ This statement may be confounding but it is deeply honest! Knowing PopJazzic’s my own recording and still can “knock-me-out” every time I put in the CD player, is a reward beyond words. A result impossible to plan and one I couldn’t have predicted; yet the most astonishing and humbling of gifts.”

The ‘epiphany’ to write and record original music came over Labor weekend in 2006. Mr. Lehman and his band was contracted for a Private, Lawn-Party/ Dance Event:

“A close friend of ours, Fey, was throwing a surprise 40th Birthday Party for her husband. My bands have worked many occasions for her family and friends over the years. But, she called on very short notice and all my regular players had other commitments and their first call subs were either already booked or out of town. I called Fey back and said regrettably, I couldn’t put anything together.”

Fey would hear none of it from me, “You have to play for us… do anything you can.”

I hemmed and hawed. Without my regular players and without enough time to rehearse properly, a myriad of trepidations were projecting a less-than-quality musical experience.

“Please, please you must bring a band for us!” she insisted.

Needless to say, I was talked out of my better judgment. With only a deleterious outcome anticipated, I put together a rhythm-section-while-you-wait and with one short rehearsal, arrived at the gig ready for the Grim Reaper.

Terrified that we hadn’t performed together before and with no performance history for us to rely on; I felt I had to “…lead with very little appeasement that evening…” I planned to call only the tunes I knew best, at the tempos and keys most comfortable to me; take no requests and planned to feature myself all evening. Forced by fate to face my internal fears and boogiemen; the only solution for me was to muster the courage of complete musical self-reliance. Nonetheless, a welcomed life lesson was learned. I had everything my way all evening. That night’s performance was the most satisfying gig of my life. Indeed, because I let no one else touch the PA system but myself, I never ran-out-of-chops. Go figure!?

I found my musical voice that evening and I am sharing this musical voice with you on PopJazzic.
