ISTK Apostiles met in April of ’08 when one of the artists in the group, Jose, came to Victory Chapel for the first time and decided that he would like to attend the church on a regular basis. Elijah’s father, Pastor Marvin Burley, is the man who preaches in the church. Not every single member in the group was introduced to the group at around this same time frame though. The only three members that got to know each other well around this time frame were Jose, Jeff and Elijah. Misty came to the group a couple of months later. It was around the December time frame, when Pastor Burley came up to the guys and told them that he would like to do what he labeled a, “No Talent Show,” for fear that people would get offended if they got on the stage and people began to boo them. The, “No Talent Show,” was supposed to be scheduled for the Christmas time frame, so everyone went around looking for talent and trying to find out what each other’s skills were.
It was around this time frame that Elijah and Jeff found out that Jose could rap and asked him if he wanted to join in on one of the acts that they were doing. Jose told them that he could rap, but that he wasn’t sure if they wanted to hear anything that he had to speak about on wax, considering that a lot of the words that he put down on paper were secular.
The guys told him to attempt to write a spiritual rhyme anyway and talked him into doing the show eventually. It wasn’t until Kris Campbell, Misty’s husband, told the guys that he knew somebody that could make beats for them, that the group got together and officially decided to come up with the name, “ISTK Apostiles,” for the group, which Kris came up with. Kris then introduced Misty to the group and told the rest of the guys that she could sing. Misty’s soulful voice was then recorded, looped and put on the background of the, “No Way Out,” track.
The guys saw how they were able to reach the faithful people of the church and decided that this was something that they wanted to do for God. They wanted to spread the gospel and hopefully win some people to Jesus. Many agree that hip-hop is dead and that the economy is doing terribly. But, with Kris leading the way as the group''s manager, ISTK Apostiles feel confident that they could bring some kind of sanity to this cruel and cold world of calamity and hopefully bring a peaceful joy to the world that could possibly win some people over to Jesus. While we have other ISTK Apostiles members waiting in the wings to drop their hooks and verses when the album comes out, we ask you to open up your hearts…ISTK Apostiles is here.
