As hip as Joss Stone and classic as Dusty Springfield, Debby Dobbins and her new CD, “Cool & Collected”, takes us on a guided tour from present to past and back again. Combining new music with newly mastered versions of all of her classics, this CD covers her entire recording catalog to date on the Spirit label. Deeply talented and at her smooth and soulful best, Debby Dobbins and writer/producer Bill Bradford have again teamed-up to deliver this collection of new and past releases while throwing in a few surprises along the way.
Debby Dobbins first caught the ear of Charlotte, NC’s pop/soul label Spirit Records when she was lighting up the jazz circuit, packing clubs, and sharing the stage with such notables as the late and legendary Dizzy Gillespie. A singer much in demand, she one day sang on a background vocal session for an early Spirit demo, and soon became the label’s flagship female vocalist. She went on to score a string of regional Pop/R&B hits for the label, ultimately going to Hollywood and a Star Search national TV performance of her “Can’t Help This Feelin’” single.
All of her sides with Spirit are included here along with several new cuts. A number of singles in this collection have reached “recurrent-classic” status and remain southeastern US and UK pop/soul standards.
