GARY ALAN DURRENBERGER
Singer/Songwriter – Tucson, Arizona
Born on November 1, 1968, in LaGrange, Texas, Gary grew up on his family’s farm outside of Giddings, Texas in the rolling post oak prairies of Central Texas.
Early influences to his music included the Texas dance halls, honky-tonks and juke boxes of the old country stores. Being the son of wholesale beer distributors meant he spent plenty of time in all three places.
Sports came first – music second. Gary earned six varsity letters from Giddings High School, graduating in 1987. He went on to earn two varsity letters in football and golf at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas.
Married in 1992 and lived in Odessa, Texas before relocating to Tucson, Arizona in 1994 to pursue a career in the finance and mortgage industry.
His love for music was stoked when his sister in-law purchased a guitar in 2001. Gary bought a guitar the following day. Self-taught on the six-string he began writing his own songs and made his first recordings in 2004, which led to industry connections.
Gary was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2005, causing a brief hiatus from his music. Once the cancer was in remission he resumed his writing career with renewed passion.
A self-described “sucker for good old honky-tonk traditional country”, Gary enjoys performing live and incorporates a lot of country classics into his live performances.
His newest release, I’m No Hero, is dedicated to all the troops and their loved ones – especially the wives left behind.
Gary is a Member of Nashville Songwriters Association International and the Austin Songwriters Group.
