Details:
From the samba, "Chega De Saudade" on soprano sax and the hard swinging "Days of Wine and Roses" on tenor, to the beautiful flute ballad reminiscent of Wynton Kelly''s playing on "You''re a Weaver of Dreams" and the Coltranesque tenor sax and piano explorations on "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise", the music is brought to life in a dynamic manner.

This CD was recorded in Orlando in ’99. Per Danielsson was working a lot with engineer Todd Beals RPM studio and suggested that I record. So, I contacted some great players that I had really enjoyed playing with in the area and set up the session.

This is definitely acoustic jazz-- a mix of grooves, combining different combinations of instruments. The tune selection seems like a tribute to jazz of the mid-20th century. You’ll know every song on this CD---but presented in a different way.

Samba De Orpheo:
Samba--one of my favorite grooves-- Soprano-- one of my favorite instruments.
Soprano, Piano, and Drums solos.
“Greatest vehicle” to play on and most refreshing energy piece on the album.

Days of Wine and Roses:
In two keys, F and Ab, within each chorus -the way Bill Evans did it. Swinging, straight-ahead jazz quintet. This features tenor, Richard Drexler on piano, and Rich Walker on guitar.

A Weaver of Dreams:
I chose Flute to play on this ballad made famous by Trane on the “Cannonball and Coltrane” album. It features flute and muted trumpet solos, and then both playing together Wynton Kelly''s solo from the Trane side.
Beautiful and simple, the “most moving” song on the CD.

Softly As In A Morning Sunrise:
This is a Coltranesque dirge that moves from free modal swing on the form of the piece, to a Latin feel, to a double-time swing groove. Drexler''s solo is stellar—The CD could be entitled; “Who’s That Pianist?.” Features tenor sax and piano.
“Best composition” on the album.

Desafinado:
A long form, and great bossa nova, this features Walker on acoustic guitar and myself on flute. Ed Metz adds a lot throughout and makes it sound like more than a quartet.
Possibly the “strongest piece” for its genre on the CD.

Everything Happens To Me:
This is presented as a traditional tenor sax ballad. Also features piano and bass.

Joy Spring:
A satisfying working of this popular Bop head. Features Sax and Trumpet.

Later in ’99, after moving to Minnesota, I was listening to the local jazz/traffic/eclectic radio station one night while driving back from a gig. The DJ/Fundraiser for the station said something to the effect; “If you listeners don’t support this station, we are going to have to start playing ‘Yanni(e)’”…….great….I just made a Jazz CD and my name has become synonymous with “that”.

By playing music, you get in touch with something inside yourself, and it is hoped that the listener can get in touch with that same thing within them.
The liner notes for this all instrumental CD set each piece to specific writings from the Bible.
