/// Bio

Derrek Wayne is a piano rock singer songwriter, his music is a traveling theater show with a style that romanticizes the vaudeville theater as a psychedelic stadium.

Wayne is a barbershop quartet singer, well versed in the romantic songs of yesteryear. He is a classically trained pianist and heavy hitting jazz drummer.

Wayne''s vocal style, like a blend of Paul McCartney, Freddie Mercury and Chet Baker, comes from his background harmonizing in barbershop quartets and vocal jazz ensembles. Among his favorite influences are The Flaming Lips, James P. Johnson, Sammy Davis Jr, Electric Light Orchestra, Irving Berlin, The White Stripes, Randy Newman and Elliot Smith.

His recordings feature guests performing synthesizer and african hand percussion. His two self produced albums are available on iTunes: Things That Summer Brings (2007), Down On The Yard (2009).

"In the latest installment of the Penny Jam, Derrek Wayne (who coincidentally looks like fellow composer-turned-Disney-crooner Randy Newman’s doppelganger circa Sail Away), tickles the ivories amidst vintage upright models at the Immortal Piano Company. And how ’bout that sax solo! It’s the perfect setting for Wayne’s jazzy lounge-pop, and the producers wisely let the music set the scene, favoring simple shots and close-ups of Wayne at his piano"
