Biography

Devoted born-again Preacher, Teacher, Recording Artist, Singer and Songwriter, Pastor Deryck Anthony Douglas was born in the Parish of Clarendon, in Jamaica West Indies; the sixth of eleven children to parents Hyacinth and Altimont Douglas on September 12th 1972. He was called by the Lord at a very early age, and was baptized at age fourteen in his hometown church (Church of God 7th day) in May pen Clarendon, Jamaica where he debuted his singing talents. By age 22 he was one of the youngest ordained evangelists in the Island, and has grown tremendously as an anointed preacher of the gospel of Christ. At age 34 he became the ordained Pastor to the Beth-El Church of God 7th day in Miami Florida, which he founded in 1997.
His singing debut was a triumphant endeavor for the young evangelist. It brought many local Gospel promoters knocking at his door and with each performance he rose above the expectations of those who were blessed enough to be ministered to by this anointed man of God. When asked what is the best thing about his ministry replied “If I reach only one person, that’s all that matters”.
In 1987, Pastor Douglas’ first single “I Must Confess” was released. The song brought about an album bearing the said title, which was released later that year, and by 1989 another album “EVANGELISM” was born and left the shelves of gospel music stores with rapid speed. In the midst of performing, Pastor Douglas never left his loves, evangelizing and preaching and would work tirelessly doing both. His anointed preaching and dynamic style later led him to the Cayman Islands, where he Co-Pastored a church there. He however took with him his love for ministering through song and music. Realizing the adamantine work at hand and what he must do, brought about his second album “STAND UO FOR LOVE” in 1990, and by the ending of that year he anthologized “I must confess” and “Stand up for love” to make “Old Time Gospel”, the CD.
His talents do not stop at preaching, evangelizing or even singing, but has also extended to songwriting. Pastor Douglas’ lyrics has been thrilling the hearts of many audiences and watering the souls of aficionados with his up-tempo beats, ballads, and culturally mixed rhythms, especially reggae gospel and generated a total of six albums, one of which is a tribute to the victims of the tragedy of 9/11 in New York.
He has gained the respect of his peers within the gospel music industry and has shared the spotlight notables such as Claudelle Clare, The Ingram Gospel Singers, The Grace Thrillers, Rev. F.C. Barnes, Hopeton Lewis, Junior Tucker, Lieutenant Stitchy, Joan Flemmings, Judy Mowatt, Jerry Thompson, Candy Staten and The Miami Mass Choir to name a few. He was lead vocalist with the title song “I Can Make It” on the 2000 CD of Rev. Melvin Dawson & the Genesis Ensemble. This song was also nominated for a Stella Award in Houston Texas in 2001.
Pastor Douglas migrated to the United States in 1991 and before long he would orchestrate a group he named “The Evangelites”. By 1994 under the direction and lead of then Evangelist Douglas, the group released its first album “Jesus Say Yes” in 1995 which was the year for Pastor Douglas. The album received tremendous recognition, especially for the single “When The Devil Say No, Jesus Say Yes” for which the album is titled. The album went floating off Gospel music charts and sold thousands of copies in CDs and Cassettes in the United States, The Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and the Caribbean on a whole. It was nominated for the Jamie Award for the best new album at the Jamie Awards Ceremony in Jamaica, West Indies. This was followed by a series of media coverage in radio, television, print, and promotion of the echoes in the night concert in Spanish Town, Jamaica, where he allowed with other artists, ministered to a capacity of over 20,000 souls. He has also been featured guest artist mentioned two years in a row in the Sun-Sentinel- South Florida’s leading news paper. The group then became in high demand, and as a result, did extensive travels throughout the U.S and the Caribbean. In 2005, Pastor Douglas then released his seventh album titled, “GOD’S CHILD” which took the Market by storm, blessing and ministering to a number of souls.
The years that followed brought to birth a number of sound lyrical albums in the liking of “PRAISE” and in the midst of it all came about the wonderful heart-wrenching “Gone but not forgotten”, a tribute to the victims of 9/11 and their loved ones. Over the years Pastor Douglas has experienced both success and failure, but like every chosen servant of The Almighty, has been triumphant and victorious, through each trying time.
Album number eight “ALMOST HOME”, was also a tremendous success, and according to him, he felt was some of his better work, yet he remains humble and focused, giving all Glory and honor to God for inspiration and anointing. Recently Pastor Douglas has performed with artists such as Minister Goddy Goddy, 2nd Chance, Sandra Brooks, George Gordon, among others.
Pastor Douglas in currently working on his ninth album, under the title “STRETCH OUT IN ME” featuring the hit single, “Lead me”, and the popular song “Who am I”, which is in rotation on the radio stations such as WAVS 1170, and also Gospel Reggae fm. By the Grace of God the album will also be a success, and a blessing to anyone who listens to it.
Pastor Douglas is valiantly active in his musical career as he holds steadfast the unadulterated work of God which he was commissioned to do. He is currently the Senior Pastor of the church he founded and the proud father of three boys namely, Danion, Daron, And Javon respectively. Truly the grace of God rests with this dynamic man of God.
