Brandon Perry “The Psalmist” - Born In Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was always attracted to music in some way or another. At the age of 8 years old I was playing drums for my school band. I was always making beats on the kitchen table, the coffee table, the floor, and on anything else in my area of confinement. I also enjoyed writing a lot. I loved to write book reports, poems, my signature, and my favorite was the love letters to the girlie girls.
One Christmas my mom bought me a Casio keyboard with the yellow drum pads on it and my partner and I, Dangerous D we called him, went straight into production. Our sessions included Dangerous D scratchin’ over the beats that I created on the Casio. (Thanks Ma)
Time went on and I added a couple of beat machines to my gear, and began putting out songs for the hood to bounce to, later on I hooked up with a group and began doing some professional recording, kind of on the explicit side.
In the middle of our 3rd project though, I decided that I didn’t want to create that kind of music anymore. I didn’t like my daughter 4 yrs. old at the time, hearing and singing that kind of music, especially coming from her dad. So I found myself standing at a crossroad. I decided to go back to the church where I grew up, giving up rap, my equipment, and all of my rap music collection.
For the next 3 years I was going steady with God. I got deep into the study of His word, and developed a pretty steady prayer life. Those 3 years are what created Brandon Perry “ The Psalmist”. I started preaching, teaching, and eventually rapping again.
Soon I became a sought after youth speaker, and artist for various events. I started traveling the country, developing lots of new friendships. Changing lives (including my own), inspiring a few folk to enter into the work of God, and winning a few awards on the way.
It’s fun, it’s life changing, and it’s fulfilling. I’m hoping that thru listening to my songs, or experiencing me personally, that you will be able to share in my journey as a disciple of God, and receive thru me, that which will assist you in getting to where God is calling you to go.
