Details:
Sole Nemesis is a heavier rock band that was formed roughly five years ago under the original name of Dragonfly. There are four members in the band by the names of: Anthony Hull, a Marine Corp. veteran and lead vocals/guitar/drums/bass, Jordan Hull, a CCAC student and guitar/bass/backup vocals, Paul Speicher, a father of two and bass/vocals/guitar, and Brandon Zanerdelli, a local music teacher and drummer/keyboard/vocals, plus a drummer in the local Pittsburgh band Day One. Coincidently, we are all Bethel Park school district graduates from a span of two decades, and our jam pad is also located in a dreary basement in Bethel Park ( a suburb of Pittsburgh ) that has been altered to make it habitable.
Our influences are vast in the music world, as our ages are, ranging from old school metal and thrash to the legends in the music scene. Alice in Chains is our biggest influence along with Godsmack, Metallica and Led Zeppelin. Although, we like to keep ourselves open to many ‘genres’ of music, we cover a pretty broad spectrum by adding in surprise songs that may take the form of country, blues, metal, southern rock, ect… Tony is the main man when it comes to lyrics, they flow out of him like water, but it is known that we all sit to review and add whatever we all can to the lyrics before they are put into a song. In essence we all generally have a part in the lyrics to the songs that we create.
As very modest people and rather laid back, we are very easy to get along with and accomplish things with. We do not favor the shining star approach that other bands may rely on when it comes to publicity; there is no real ‘lead’ guitarist as there is no need for it in general. Our music is not about who can move the fastest and be the best and most talented, it is simply music. A solo falls where one may fit, and whoever does it most likely came up with a part first. Even then songs are not genuinely designed to feature a solo any more than they are to over incorporate vocals or drums. Tony may be the lead vocalist but he is equally willing to stand back and sing backup for either Paul or Brandon, which is done in many of our songs that feature Paul as the lead vocalist. There are even songs that the both of them share the lyrics as a team. With three people who all cover broad pitches and styles of singing it only opens up our music even more. Tony has a comparable voice to those like Layne Staley/Jerry Cantrell while Paul has a more Lemmie or Sully type voice. Brandon is comparable to Simon and or Garfunkle with his broader higher pitch that sits hauntingly behind either Tony or Paul’s voices. .
We have been through the typical trials and tribulations as any other band has throughout the years including loosing two drummers. We acquired, by luck, our best and most fitting drummer about six months ago and from there we have not looked back. Brandon and Tony may be the most experienced members of our band, having been in bands for most of their lives. Paul and Jordan are the rookies when it comes to the whole music world. However, over the years that we have been together we have all grown in our ability and in maturity. That advancement can be heard in our newer music that we churn out compared to our older music that relies more on strong lyrics than music.
In June of 2006 we hit the Mojo Boneyard Studios in McKeesport to record a thirteen track all original album called Sixteenth Season. After the album was in production we set up our debut gig at the Warehouse Café in Bethel Park, call it our ‘home base’, and began our promotion. On the 29th of July we ended up having one of our best shows in years and basically selling the Warehouse Café out. Since then we have set up yet another gig at the Warehouse café on the 28th of October, it is set to be the Halloween party. Many other gigs are also pending approval from other bars and clubs in the city as we are attempting to lengthen our resume.
In Sole Nemesis our initial plan for the band as a whole is just to have fun and create music that is worth listening to. We try to never forget why we do what we do, and that is simply to make music that is fun to play and that can relate to the general public. Our lyrics are personally written about life, as any other band may do too, and the everyday pain and excitement that it can bring. We try to appeal to both types of crowds, being younger and older people, with mature lyrics and catchy beats and rhythms. Our fans are not just seen as an easy five dollars at the door or a simple sale of our CD, they are seen as what they really are, our best friends and family, we love when we can reach into peoples hearts and minds with our lyrics and music and make them feel what it is we are trying to do. Like any other band the money is essential to our survival and our ability to put on a good show with the best possible equipment, that is why instead of living on the cash that we do bring in, it is set aside to build up and fund our cause, be it another CD or tee-shirts, stickers and promotion for our future shows.
Our fellow bands out there know us as the workhorses in the music world. We love to practice and promote, twice a week you can hear the riffs and beats floating out from the windows of our jam pad, and every night you can see us online relating to our fan base from across the country. We have loyal roadies that will help us to the ends of the world, and loving women that will always be there for us. Personally, we would rather give out our CD for free just to get it out there and into people’s ears and minds, and we have done that, but it’s not always that easy.
Please give us a listen and see what you think. There is bound to be a song on this CD or even one that is not on a CD yet that you will find appeals to you. Visit out site and meet our fans and friends for they are our pride and joy, we feel a great sense of pride for the people that we have acquired. Come to a future show and become a part of the family, participate in the fun and laughs as we simply act on stage as though we might around the table at Thanksgiving. Help us in the quest to make a difference in this city, and in the music world. We will get there somehow, no matter how long or what we may have to do. Thank you-
The combined family of Sole Nemesis.
