Today, Tomorrow & Forever, jazz flautist extraordinaire, Valarie King’s new release Only Time Will Tell, is a sensational collection of vintage 70’s hits which have been revived and reenergized some truly inspired originals and guest appearances by Hubert Laws, Patrice Rushen and Jeff Clayton.
Compositions on the CD range from Classic to Latin Jazz, to gritty Hammond B-3 flavored funk piece entitled Hot Slice and traditional jazz piece called Kingfisher penned especially for Valarie by renowned bandleader Jeff Clayton. Paying homage to the great 70’s classics, 101 Soulful Strings hit Burning Spear and the plaintive Stevie Wonder ballad Knocks Me Off My Feet, are revamped with lush horn and string arrangements presented with a fresh new spin.
One of the true highlights of this stunning CD is when the lovely Ms King steps to the microphone for her beautiful delivery of the Natalie Cole hit La Costa, which culminates in a rapid fire samba groove.
Only Time Will Tell if that rare combination of raw talent, skill and passion will blossom into extraordinary greatness, but in the case of jazz flautist Valarie King, her second CD release is bonified proof that the combination works ……..and has produced amazing results !
