Details:
Raised by Eastern European immigrants and Californian hippies Andre Karpov left for the city of San Francisco at a young age to work just about every job, and explore various techniques of self-expression. Bored with the complacency of his fellow countrymen, He took up with a band of roving gypsies and traveled abroad to distant European countries learning Italian, Russian and Hungarian folk songs. Returning to the states to pursue a career in music, he moved to New York City playing electric guitar and writing songs for ''the Mountain Men.''

One night in Brooklyn, Andre stumbled across the sounds of clarinet and accordion, mandolin and brass melodies wafting out of their very organic instruments strait into the darker parts of his soul. Moved to tears and revelation Andre put away his electric guitar and returned to San Francisco where the heavens split open above the corner of 16th and mission and there stood a defiant and passionate Joe Lewis hunched over his upright bass slapping away at the strings, and to his left, a dapper and dangerous Jarod Hermann shattering the existential silence with brush and snare. Afar in the distant lower haight foothills, under the shadow of a sorry world stood Aaron Novick belting out shrieks of klezmer catastrophic riffage with his clarinet, redefining the avant-garde. A recent and essential addition to the band is Sam Tsitrin whose grandiose accordion swells are key to the sound that is
Karpov.

Taking up residence in a backwards-dilapidated tenement shack somewhere in the mission Andre lived and the songs poured out. What followed was a year and a half of playing shows and recording an album titled “Soliloquy”. The band is called Karpov. It’s mission; to bring its particular brand of gypsy folk rock to the whole of humanity.
