Kelley O has hidden her talent from the world long enough! For the past twenty years, she has quietly written songs inspired by her life experiences: her children, her work with suicidal teens and the elderly, her love for her island home, and of course, her experiences with love and heartache. The result – a myriad of intelligent, vulnerable, poetic lyrics coupled with a pure and unique sound – truly a breath of fresh air. In December 2003, Kelley fulfilled her life-long dream of preserving her songs for her biggest fans, her children and family. Little did she know, as she began to give her CD as gifts to her friends and colleagues, how much her music would touch and inspire. After much encouragement, Kelley agreed to release the CD to the public. Lucky for you!
“I’ve always thought of myself as a songwriter, not a singer. But who else would sing my songs if I didn’t?” she laughs. “People who hear me think of Joan Baez, and I joke that it’s too bad I wasn’t born a decade earlier. It’s an amazing compliment.” Hey, there are still a lot of baby boomers out there dying to hear her style of folk music. And young fans of the likes of Norah Jones will find Kelley O appealing as well.
“It’s the perfect music to stick in your car CD and sit in traffic with! It’s so incredibly calming,” states one music critic. “Each song is so unique, yet I like them all.”
Kelley Lum Oshiro was born and raised in Honolulu. She is currently Executive Director of Youth Service Hawaii, a non-profit that works with teachers, students, and community organizations to incorporate community service into academic curriculum.
