Kene Terry, Portales, NM, based singer-songwriter put his debut album, ‘Let You Down’ together with the Ray Kinsella, Field of Dreams-ish attitude of build it, and they will come. Without a record label, a band, or even much more than a sketch in his mind, Terry made the trip to Central Texas, with fellow songwriter Jimmy Neece to record with Stephen Miller and Zach Murphree (Terry’s first cousin) in Miller’s small Austin studio, MillaSound. ‘Let You Down’, an alt-country/rock project will definitely take you down US-70 through Portales, where through his own songs and his takes on his buddies’ songs create a sound that is a true, maybe completely original sound from Eastern New Mexico.
Band: “If you build it…” As Terry put a band together for the May 18th release date, he and Neece hooked up with Kendal Leonhardt, one of Terry’s old band-mates from college. With him Leonhardt brought lead guitarist Shem Peachey. Leonhardt’s older brother Jason, a lead guitarist, while hanging around the practice studio, picked up a bass for fun. Within mere minutes, the group had landed an opening gig for The Randy Rogers Band at ENMU in Portales. The boys have not looked back. Their live shows contain everything from Zeppelin to Paycheck to The Refreshments. The band has also gained quite a cult following in the Southwest. Their fans are from Eastern New Mexico, Albuquerque & Las Cruces, Denver, Tempe, Durant, OK, and even down the way of Stephenville, TX.
