MP3 KELO II - Southern Cal, Ghetto Foul

A lyrical "Snap Shot" of inner city life

14 MP3 Songs
HIP HOP/RAP: West Coast Rap, HIP HOP/RAP: Hardcore Rap

Details:
Kelo II was born in the inner city of South Central Los Angeles, notoriously dubbed by his neighborhood as "The Land of No Pity". Driven away from regular attendance at school by the lucrative drug trade of crack cocaine, which inevitably landed him smack dead in the middle of a drug war, and foolishly, in the biggest crip gang in Los Angeles ... The East Coast Crips "Eleum 8 St."(Pronounced Eleven Eight Street or 118 St.). He was given the name Kelo to reflect his entrepreneurial status as well as his affiliation. (Pronounced "Kilo" replacing the "i" with an "e" to exhort his claim to the East Side)
Born Joseph Edwards Jr., Kelo II began a life which inadvertently gave birth to the disturbingly true-to-life accounts of his rap lyrics, which reflected the reality of urban living filled with the atrocities of street life as well as the pain associated with it. During a 9 year term in California State Prison, Kelo II came to grips with the fact that he was not invincible, and that our failing society had a place for its failures. He began to channel a lot of this rage and hatred into his music, which for the most part, was more therapeutic than anything. It helped him release things inside of him longing to he liberated. It wasn’t until he begun reciting these rhymes on the prison yard in hip-hop "yard battles” that he realized that he was a diamond in the ruff. And through the applause and amazed faces of the former kings of the yard battles, Kelo II recognized that a STAR was born.
With the angry lyrics slowly subsiding, Kelo II began to formulate rhymes that were witty & catchy, which broadened his horizon of actually relating to the masses, instead of a certain group of people. He began constructing a form of rap that could be commercially successful, without sacrificing the reality of his message. When asked what makes him any different than other rappers, Kelo II responds, “Most rappers rap, that''s all they do. But I tell stories about my life and yours, if you''ve experienced what I rhyme about... that''s what separates me from the rest. Not only can you hear me, hut you can feel me, because that really happened to me, and maybe even you. That''s why I''m so passionate about my music.” “I have what they want ... Street Credibility. The people want real, not over-exaggerations ... they want something fresh, something new ... people want Kelo II.”

Kelo II aspires to use the money from his
talent to make life easier for the inner city community. He stated that he doesn''t want the youths in his hood to get caught up like he did. "They may not make it out", he says.

"I''m not like the rest who glorifies things & situations they have never experienced.
“I simply write about my life. As life gets better, so will my music."
