Details:
A twenty-year Alaska resident, Ken Waldman has lived in Fairbanks, Juneau, Sitka, Nome, Anchorage, and has traveled widely throughout the state. His three full-length poetry collections are Nome Poems, To Live on This Earth, and The Secret Visitor''s Guide. He also has two books forthcoming: And Shadow Remained and Conditions and Cures. All these books are for adult readers. His previous CDs are A Week in Eek, Burnt Down House, Music Party, and All Originals, All Traditionals. Fiddling Poets on Parade was recorded in response to his exciting family and school shows, and is the first CD to fully spotlight this material. As Alaska''s Fiddling Poet, he tours throughout North America performing at leading universities, arts centers, and festivals. He has also been a visiting artist at over 100 schools in 22 states.

This CD, like all of Ken Waldman''s CDs, was recorded very quickly, which gives it a live, immediate sound. On all tracks, Ken is accompanied by Jordan Wankoff, a wonderful multi-instrumentalist who teaches at Chicago''s famed Old Town School of Folk Music. Here, depending on the track, he plays guitar, banjo, twin fiddle, and even the African thumb piano. On other tracks they''re joined by guitarist and bass player, Clayton Brown, or else by fiddler and singer, Elizabeth Lamberti and singer Angela Bowman.

How does this children''s/family CD sound like? Will kids really like it? What ages will it appeal to?

The first child who actually got to hear the finished product, a four-year-old named Moriah who lives in Anchorage, listened intently. After a while, she pointed to the stereo, and said to her father: "Daddy, I want to go to that place."

"It''s just a CD, honey," he said. "You can''t go to that place."

"Daddy," she said. "I want to go to that place."

"It''s okay, honey," he said. "We can listen some more if you want."

The father reported his daughter requested the CD morning and evening for five days in a row. And while some of the sillier cuts work great for pre-schoolers, the entire CD is sophisticated enough to attract elementary-schoolers, middle-schoolers, and parents. The tune Burnt Down House, complete with story, poem, and sung refrain, has been popular with middle-schoolers, high-schoolers, and adult audiences wherever Ken Waldman goes.

Another response:

I totally enjoyed your new CD “Fiddling Poets on Parade”. My son (Ben age 10) listened to it on the way to our last campout of the season. We both loved Burnt Down House, Angeline the Baker, Turkey Gone.
