Depuis des années, la tradition dans mes groupes est d’appeler les maquettes de travail enregistrées pendant des concerts Alive And Flying. Du LIVE.. Mr FLY… Sur scènes, on a l’impression de VOLER sur le “high” de la musique. Bref, la logique voulait que le premier album live officiel s’appelle “ALIVE AND FLYING” … part 1 parce qu’il y en aura d’autres, promit!
Le concert du SOLARIUM a été mis en place grâce à l’association Bénin-Nagnon, avec qui j’ai la chance de travailler depuis presque 2 ans; C’est une équipe de bénévole passionée qui s’occupe de l’éducation et du dévellopment durable au Bénin. Camille, une de leur membre, m’avait proposé de faire un concert pour leur fête annuelle en 2008; on s’était éclaté tous ensemble, et Jean-Guy Rouilé, le président de l’asso, m’avait proposer de remettre ça en 2009.
Après plus de 4 mois de travail acharné avec mes musiciens et mon équipe de production, nous avons mis en place le concert le 6 Février 2009 dans notre salle fétiche du Solarium, à Gradignan. Notre ami Bruno de BG Sonorisation à débarqué avec un camion rempli de joujous visuels et, avec l’aide de Mr Jean-Louis, on a tout monté en 8 heures… Le concert lui-même a été un moment magique pour nous, avec plus de 350 personnes qui sont venu mettre le feu! Sur scène, Fly, Maziar, DJ Maïder, Eric, Yan et moi-même avont été rejoint par les sublimes danseuses de la compagnie ADAGE, Sonya et Sandra… et on s’est éclaté!
Deux semaines plus tard, j’ai commencé à retravailler les pistes audios enregistré le soir du concert et, au début de Mai, après un mixage avec mon ami Cyril, l’album était dans la boïte et en route pour l’usine… Pendant que Léo travaille dur sur les images du concerts filmés par lui-même et Mr Arnaud de Cheveux Longs, Idées Courtes.

Over the last few years, every time I’d put together a work demo from live recordings, I’d label it “alive and flying”- LIVE… with Mr FLY… FLYING on the musical vibes that the stage gives us… Soooo. It was pretty logical that my first live album should inherit the name. Hence ALIVE AND FLYING… Part 1 because there will be others, I promise!
The SOLARIUM show, where we recorded this album, came about after I was invited by a girl called Camille to come play the yearly benefit concert for a humanitarian association called Bénin-Nagnon; They help develop educational and humanitarian ressources in Bénin. After that first show, the president of Bénin-Nagnon, Jean-Guy, offered to sponsor another show for me. Et voila!
After 4 months of preparations, we finally put the show on at the Solarium in Gradignan on Febuary 6th, 2009. Our friend Bruno from BG Sonorisation arrived at the venue with a truck filled to the brim with visual toys (that almost tipped over on the way) and, with the help of my buddy Jean-Louis, we built the stage in 8 hours. The next day, the concert started at 9pm. Over 350 people showed up! (I was hoping for 200); We used the 10m x 15m wall behind us as a huge screen to project our 3D animation, visual painings, and live camera Vjay show. On stage, Mr. Fly, Maziar, Eric, DJ Maïder, Yan and myself were joined by two beautiful dancers, Sandra and Sonya, and we bathed in the magical vibe created by the crowd, the lights, and the sound, for almost three hours of musical madness. The result was captured on film and on hardrive.
Two weeks later, I started working on the recodings. Finally, in mid- May, my friend Cyril and I mixed the baby and ALIVE AND FLYING part 1 was born and off to the presses! In the meantime, Mr Léo started editing all the footage from the 4 camera shoot that he and Arnaud shot to put together a few videos for all of you out there in internet land!
