Who is Jeremy Gloff?
I am a performer currently based in Tampa Florida. I have self released 14 albums, each documenting my psychological and musical growth. Each album is a journal, and each song is an entry in that journal.
What music do you listen to?
I have trouble describing my own music, and I don’t think it really sounds anything like what I listen to. I’m pretty closed minded about what I like-the newest artist in my collection came out in 1993. Some of my favorites are Madonna, Marianne Faithfull, Stevie Nicks, Sonic Youth, and the Pointer Sisters.
How did you grow as a person and as a musician during the making of “Now’s the right time to feel good?”
Psychologically, I have learned more about myself during the last three years than I ever thought imaginable. I’ve overcome some really tough life trials. I came out of it a bit bruised but still ticking. There were times during the making of this album I felt completely void of passion and compassion. I remember a point sitting in the studio thinking “well, this just isn’t fun anymore.” So I took some time off. I put this record on hold. I wrote and recorded an acoustic album in a week that I already released but didn’t really promote. I needed to go back to my roots - like when I was a teenager with a lot of passion and little care for technique or polish. When I returned to the studio, I approached my music and this project in a whole new light. I enjoyed being a studio geek--spending hours and days on mixes. For the first time, I really fancied being a craftsman, and building these songs from the floor up. To be honest, I still don’t know how I feel about this album as a whole. I knew it was something I had to do to be able to move on with my life. I am no longer a 20 year old fueled by youth and fire. I’m now a 31 year old who has made a
commitment to improving and continuing my craft.
How does Jeremy Gloff finance his projects?
For the last eight years, I’ve had the unglamorous pleasure of serving all-you-can-eat fried chicken and fish to the tourist population of America. Tips pay well, enough to support my music career. So working in a restaurant, I’m certainly not a “starving” artist, as much as I’m a freaking exhausted one. Sometimes it’s so hard to come home after dealing with nasty people all day, sit in front of the computer, and promote my album for eight more hours. I don’t get much sleep.
What are some of the themes of this album?
There are many, but I’ll touch on a few. During my 20s I was very much a socialite who could be found at any given hot spot three or four nights a week. The day I realized I had outgrown that, I had this terrifying sensation of “well, now what?” When you progress as an intellectual and creative being past the point of surface socialization and cheap thrills, where do you meet people? What do you do for fun? So during the writing of this album, I was trying to find my place in the world as a 31 year old. And in addition to my usual themes of heartbreak, restlessness, and childhood reflection, I think this album deals with strength, liberation, and wisdom. I’m glad it’s all over.

JEREMY GLOFF OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY:
Jeremy Gloff is an independent performer who has self-released fourteen albums since 1993. Born in western New York in 1975 to a family rife with alcoholism and mental illness, Gloff found solace in music at a young age. While most boys were collecting action figures, Gloff immersed himself in the music of Madonna, Stevie Nicks, and many other flashy icons from the 70s and 80s.
Gloff’s first album was the rough home-recorded True Stories, issued in 1993 at eighteen years of age. While this cassette release was light years away from the mature songcraft of his later work, the passion of Gloff’s delivery was evident from the first song. During the mid-1990s Gloff moved frequently, living in Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta. While publicly acknowledging depression and addiction, Gloff continued to release a string of cassettes, each showcasing a personal and musical evolution. Between the years of 1995 and 1998, Gloff issued an astonishing seven albums. 1998’s Jeremy Gloff was the first Gloff album to be recorded professionally and released on CD.
In 1999 Jeremy Gloff relocated to Tampa and began recording for the first time with a full band. The ensuing release, 2000’s indie-rock inspired Spin Girl Spin, was Gloff’s most successful recording to date. Gloff was voted by the Weekly Planet as Tampa’s “Best Singer/Songwriter,” and many of Spin Girl Spin’s tracks appeared on compilations and college airplay charts. Momentum continued to grow when tracks from 2001’s America Is Lonely Tonight were featured, along with a cameo from Gloff himself, in the documentary Hooked. Although 2003’s critically acclaimed Romantico was Gloff’s most polished work yet, personal issues prevented the album from being promoted properly. In 2004 Gloff began work on a new album then shelved the project midway to record and release the shockingly personal Orange Songs. After a low key west coast tour to promote the album, Gloff took the remainder of 2004 and all of 2005 off.
Jeremy Gloff re-emerges in 2006 with Now’s The Right Time To Feel Good, a watershed release from a performer who has been around the block and has a lot of stories to tell about it. It’s always been difficult to describe and categorize Gloff’s music. It’s abstract yet very familiar. It’s as accessible and catchy as it is edgy and artsy. Jeremy Gloff is one of those rare artists with a voice and sound that is distinctly his own. And with this new album, it seems Gloff has taken complete ownership of this legacy. If you are lucky you will catch Gloff on his next tour, with his guitar, keyboard, drum machine, heart-on-his-sleeve, and feet off the ground. Perhaps the best way to describe Gloff is as a modern day Elton John. Emotional. Intelligent. Flamboyant. Unpretentious. Earthy. Flashy. Complete. Jeremy Gloff is a man on the rise.
