GERALDINE QUINN - CV/BIOGRAPHY

Songwriter, actor, comedian, guitarist, singer, ginger and wit-slinger: Geraldine Quinn’s startling talents, black humour and rock stylings have confirmed her position in the industry since 2004. Her debut A Pint of Absinthe sold out at Chapel Off Chapel. In 2005, Something For The Weekend sold out The Butterfly Club, Quintessential sold out again in March 2006, after which Bad Ambassador played the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Cabaret Festival (sold out), Gilded Balloon during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and two repeat seasons in Melbourne.

In 2007 and 2008, Quinn toured with the MICF Roadshow and appeared on ABC’s Spicks and Specks, the Comedy Channel (Stand Up Australia) and twice guested on ABC Radio’s The Comedy Hour. SEXDEATHBOWIE earned Quinn 4-5 star reviews internationally during 2007 seasons in Adelaide, Melbourne and Edinburgh. In 2008 Dumb Things sold out Melbourne’s Midsumma Festival and MICF and played full houses during Adelaide Fringe.

Geraldine Quinn was acting, writing and singing for 10 years before studying at National Theatre Drama School. Prior to NTDS, she played Charlotte Corday in Marat/Sade (1997), the title role in Hedda Gabler (1995), Hesther Salomon in Equus (1995) and Mercutio in a cross-gender production of Romeo and Juliet. In 2003 Quinn played Lady Macbeth at the Atheneum II in 2003 and wrote, directed and starred in a short play at Carlton Courthouse. Her first solo show A Pint of Absinthe was developed with award-winning M.D. Mark Jones and opened at Chapel Off Chapel in 2004.

A self-taught songwriter/musician, before she was twenty Quinn had performed at The Last Laugh and The World Congress Centre. She was invited to perform at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in 2006 and her pop tribute guest show The Butterfly Affair sold out on her return from Edinburgh Fringe, where she was chosen for both the David Letterman Showcase and Mervyn Stutter’s Pick of the Fringe. Since then she has repeatedly sold out in Adelaide, Melbourne and Edinburgh.

In 2007 Geraldine Quinn won Victoria’s Green Room Award for Best Emerging Cabaret Artiste (also nominated for Original Songs), performed with Paul Kelly at The Spiegeltent (Just Came Out Of A Coma) and was inducted into the Who’s Who of Australian Women. She has been a regular performer at MICF’s Upfront performances and performs regularly around Australia and overseas.

Quinn recorded her live album with a full band at The East Brunswick Club in October 2008. Her 2009 show Hex and the City is played Adelaide Fringe (sold out, 5 stars - Adelaide Advertiser) and Melbourne International Comedy Festival (sold out) and Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2009. Possessor of an astonishing voice, a wicked sense of humour and a keen intelligence, this queen of hardcore cabaret is a force to be reckoned with.

Quinn released her debut EP A Quick One in April 2006. The live album Scream ‘Jarvis Cocker’ When You’re Losing released February 2009.
