Details:
The vision for THE WAY YOU ARE began in the hallway of Elizabeth Quinn’s little home in rural Ontario. Night after night at least one of her five children would ask “Mommy, could you sing to me please?” And that is how she taught them, through song. All the truths Elizabeth wanted to pass on – you are loved, don’t be afraid, Jesus loves you, there is hope for your future, please don’t fight – she turned into a song and an opportunity to flush out the negative messages of the day. She had the last, lovely word.

Having captivated her own children through song, Elizabeth wondered who else she could speak to through her music. Perhaps other children and their parents or a wounded soul needing healing, she knew others would definitely benefit from her message of hope and encouragement. It became a passion that had to be fulfilled on the day she read this quote by Robert Moffat: “In the vast plain of the North I have sometimes seen in the morning sun, the smoke of a thousand villages; where no missionary has ever been.” Elizabeth knew that the songs were not just for her children, but by God’s grace they would go “where no missionary has ever been,” speaking into homes and lives the powerful message of God and His word.

Elizabeth believes that all people, through Jesus, can flourish “like a tree planted by the water.” There is hope for our families, for our lives and for the lives of our children.

Growing up, Elizabeth’s dreams never wavered. She longed to write and sing and to be a wife and a mother. At an early age she felt a stirring to sing and remembers standing in the living room pouring out her soul in song imagining she was in front of a large crowd. It was then that she began writing a few songs and dreaming of what God could do through her. As a preacher’s daughter, the opportunity to sing came often. Her father and mother traveled to many churches and her sisters and she provided the special music. In Bible College Elizabeth joined the travelling music group and gained further opportunity as a soloist. Always remembering her father’s advice “enunciate your words,” she gained her own clear and clean vocal style. At the age of 19, without her family, she moved from Manitoba to Ontario to work at Crossroads Christian Communications, producers of the television show 100 Huntley Street. Although her duties were in the administrative area, she was able to sing from time to time on 100 Huntley Street with a group of others.

The first Sunday after moving to Ontario, Elizabeth met her future husband Jeff Quinn. She sang regularly at the church they attended together, both in the Choir and as a soloist. Four years after moving to Ontario, Jeff and Elizabeth were married.

After 12 years of marriage and five children, Elizabeth is still passionate about singing and caring for her family. She is currently one of the worship leaders at her church in Barrie, Ontario. The songs she has written combined with her rich and sincere voice are beginning to grip the hearts of those she reaches. Her message is powerful and always speaks the truth. She definitely lives what she sings. This story is only the beginning of what God is going to do through this dreamer He called when she was just a child. She is willing – He is able.
