Details:
Gene Maarkr is a high-energy songwriter/performer whose music features low key droning synth sounds and multiple bass elements, overhead synth solos, terrific percussion beats, and strong vocals along the lines of David Bowie, Brian Ferry, Chris Isaac, Roy Orbison. Song styles are very diverse on this first release, ranging from hard rock with repeating guitar elements and strong drum rhythms, to gently interleaved guitar and string productions, to dark synth with guitar textured effects, to catchy pop tunes. Compositions will remind you of elements in music from King Crimson, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, and more recent electronic artists, with detuned guitars effects, high frequency arpeggios, and custom electronic samples. You won’t believe the work is by one composer/vocalist.

This first CD includes popular-sounding music rhythms and superb vocals, with over 20 years of his percussion experience evident in the compositions. The keynote song is “Newsgirl,” a synth pop tune about a news reporter and her admirer. Hard rock listeners will enjoy the lead song “Do You Like It?” and “Drivin,” and the rock-trance style “Dangerous.” Younger listeners will appreciate pop melodies like “Soccer Song” and “Ica-Ita-Ida.” Soft rock songs included are “Sailing for a New Land” and “Waiting for the Next World.”

Gene Maarkr writes, engineers and produces his own songs, as well as plays guitar, keyboards, and vocals in his small studio. Gene also relies heavily on processed sequencing tracks and other custom-edited samples to bring variety and depth to the songs. He uses the latest technology and software to bring the best in sounds, effects, and processing techniques to make the music stand out.

The upcoming second CD expands on the first, with some Dylan-esque sounding material mixed in with strong synthesized textures, and some newer trance-inspired rock/electronic creations.
