Details:
The Blinded Camels came together in 1982. All the members attended Gonzaga High in Washington D.C. The drummer Matthew Jones, aka "Matty Dread," and Bass player John Winslow, aka "Sezwan," were heavily into reggae, always catching WHFS'' Dr. Dread show on Sat. night (Dr. Dread later formed RAS records) and found middle ground with singer Graham "G-Money" Hunt and guitarist Andy "Shoestring Hollywood" Prosky, whose influences varied from the Beatles to P-Funk. Everyone was into the Talking Heads and King Crimson.

The band actually played one of their first gigs at CBGB''s in NYC and then local venues like D.C. Space, The Safari Club, and Chief Ike''s. The band added synth player Tim "T-Bone" Kennelly and keyboardist Mike "Zammy" Zampogna. T-Bone was interested in multi-media and incorporated lo-tech films and light displays into the shows.

Fast forward to 2009, the current band rarely gigs, because members are spread out from New York to Richmond VA., but still get together frequently to record. The Camel''s basic premise is to improvise, be original, have fun, The results can be really dynamic, rough and rugged.

The Camels new CD “Treasure Beach” is the 2nd official release after “Backyard Style” (sandwiching many unofficial recordings). While the band has other genre crossing material in the can, The CD is streamlined to Reggae only, but still reveals influences that give it some extra flavor. The title track is about a small town beach on the South Coast of JA, visited by drummer “Matty Dread.” G-Money celebrates all four members strictly “District” heritage on “D.C. is Where We Come From” (no Bethesda’s in the house). AP shines on his “Not Alone” melancholy original. JDub is the anchor throughout with his signature dubwise basslines. The band was also thrilled to have Mark “Eyes” Allred on trumpet, Stefan “Teflon” Prosky on Sax, And Miguel “Give em hell” Schief on trombone, taking the sound to a higher level on a number of tracks! So sit back in your beach chair, tap your Heineken Mini, and chill to the sounds from Treasure Beach.
