Details:
He was born in Livingston, New Jersey on February 8, 1978 to Lee and Lorraine Barnett. A life long resident of South Orange, New Jersey, he was educated in the public schools of that town. As a child growing up, Bryant was drawn to music. He would always be heard singing around the house and seen sitting with his ear to the speaker of his parent’s old 8-track and record player stereo. Bryant was first introduced to singing by his mother who in the late 70’s and through out the 80’s headed a group called “Charity”. This gospel group of women could be found singing in the local churches and shelters in New Jersey. Attending these concerts was a family event and to Bryant, events that he always looked forward to. He started singing first in his family’s home Bible studies; then in the church and school choirs.

Bryant attended school in the South Orange/Maplewood school district of New Jersey. He was very active in all school choirs from elementary to 11th grade. His most influential music teacher was Mrs. Sandra Harris-Barnhart. Mrs. Barnhart taught Bryant music up until his freshman year in high school. Bryant’s passion for singing lead him to join the Columbia High School concert choir his freshman year. At first, learning the classical style and all the fundamentals of vocal production was not at all important to Bryant. However, when he noticed the change in how he sounded and the expansion of his range, he began to skip lunch period to be in both sessions of the choir class. Bryant also headed the Columbia High School Gospel choir for two years. High school caused Bryant’s love for singing to grow deeper and his appreciation for classical and other types of music to broaden.

Through out his high school and college years, “Bebe”, as he is known by most, honed his gift of singing and building harmonies. Recently, Bebe’s passion for singing was shifted to acting and spoken-word poetry. With these three talents combined, one is sure to enjoy the heart felt performance of this up and coming young artist. His stage presence is that of a veteran in the music industry. “Bebe” allows you to believe that he’s been at this for years. His performance will grab the hearts of many as he sings with such compassion; such conviction; but most of all, a great anointing.

This versatile vocalist has performed with such notable greats as Lorraine Stancil, Nancey Jackson, Shirley Caesar, Vicki Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Tremaine Hawkins, In-A-Way and most recently; Tye Tribbett & Greater Anointed. In April of 2003, he was voted the first New Jersey Nets’, New Jersey Idol; a competition sponsored by the New Jersey Net’s and held at the Meadowlands Arena full of spectators.

Bryant has earned an enviable reputation as a tenor in the Jesus Is Coming Church Mass Choir since the age of 13 as well as soloist in this Irvington-based church. He travels with his uncle & pastor, Bishop James H. Everett, Jr. on some occasions providing the ministry of music as a fitting compliment to the preached word. He has also distinguished himself as one of the youth leaders of the church. He is admired and respected by young people both in his church and community. Occasionally, he would donate his time on Sunday mornings to sing for the mission’s services. The songs of praise that he has shared have brought comfort and encouragement to hundreds of homeless, recovering addicts, and people in despair.

“I enjoy singing! it’s musical communication to GOD and to the people so a lot of times when I sing, I tend to make eye contact with some people in the audience. I like to establish connection with my audience; GOD, and the people. It just makes a huge difference.”

The smooth, rich tones of his voice appeal to those who have a preference for classical music. However, he is able to move easily from classical to traditional and ultimately to contemporary gospel without difficulty. His musical style appeals to the young and old alike. He will surprise his audience as he moves from reserved to radical, from formal to “funky”.
