A percussionist since he turned eight, when he received his first drum set, music is in Joey Newman’s blood…literally. A third generation film composer, Joey’s grandfather is famed composer/conductor Lionel Newman, and his great uncle is Alfred Newman, both of whom are part of the very definition of movie music. Film composing runs in the Newman family, with Joey’s cousins Randy, Thomas and David all successful composers in their own right. And, Joey’s father, Joe Frank Carollo, was bassist/vocalist for the famed 1970’s rock group, “Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds”.
Joey got his start working in television with Emmy award-winning composer W.G. Snuffy Walden (The West Wing, The Wonder Years, Thirtysomething) and continues to do so having been nominated for a 2008 Prime-time Emmy Award for his work on TLC''s hit docu-reality series "Little People, Big World".
This album reflects a personal compilation of Joey''s film music from a wide variety of dramatic and quirky projects. From the darkly humorous to the somber and melancholy, Joey''s knack for setting the perfect emotional tone for a scene is evident in each track''s uniqueness and choice of instrumental colors.
