The Short Songs project was written primarily in 2005. Amanda had the help of a few wonderful musicians. Charlie Banacos, her teacher, has been a great inspiration and source of amusement. Peter Slavov, Vardan Ovsepian and Aaron Parks all contributed to the arrangements and to Amanda’s confidence in the project. The full-length album was recorded at the Peter Karl Studio in May 2005. Amanda prides herself in her all-star band, Aaron Parks/piano, Keith Ganz/guitar, Peter Slavov/bass and Kendrick Scott/drums. Keith Ganz mixed the album and it was mastered at DB Studios in New York. Tal Goretsky designed the CD jacket cover and Aram Jibilian took the photos.
A short history of Amanda:
Born in Santa Cruz California. Graduated from Fremont High School as an aspiring Chemical Engineer. During her second year at UC Davis she joined “The Irradicats”, a nine piece Jazz/Swing/Ska band. Realizing that she wanted to pursue a career in music she moved to the east coast and received her undergraduate degree at Berklee College of Music in Boston, performing all around New England to pay the rent. Amanda sang with a wedding and general business band called “Airtight”. She also sang on the Odyssey Cruise Ship and with her own jazz quartet.
Amanda is now based in New York and involved in several exciting musical projects. She sings in the Vadim Neselovskyi Group (pianist of Gary Burton), a World/Classical/Jazz fusion band. Amanda currently studies with her great teacher and mentor, Charlie Banacos. She drives ten hours every week for a half hour lesson and claims that it’s worth every minute.
