13 MP3 Songs
POP: Piano, POP: Folky Pop
"Parachute" is Bar Scott’s fifth studio recording of original material and features a ton of amazing talent. 13 songs one of which is a cover of Sly Stone’s “Everyday People” performed with background singers Jen Starr and Callie Hershey with Tony Levin on bass and singing too. Sam Zucchini moves the song with a great frame drum track.
The 12 originals are performed by Bar on her own piano. The record was recorded at her home studio in upstate NY, so it’s the first CD on which she’s playing her own Steinway piano.
The CD is the first recording of Bar’s since the death of her son, Forrest, in 2002. The songs reflect her love in a deep, celebratory and reflective way. This is in no way a sad collection of songs. These are songs of love. As usual, you will feel something when you listen to Bar, but care was taken to create songs that express her love so that anyone who is in love or who has loved can feel that love more deeply.
Musicians include: Tony Levin (bass; Peter Gabriel Band, Paul Simon, King Crimson…), Jerry Marotta (drums; Hall and Oates, Ani DiFranco, Peter Gabriel Band) David Sancious (string arrangement and keyboards; Sting, Bruce Springsteen), Kevin Bartlett (guitarist and producer; Happy Rhodes and his own, wonderful ambient music scores), Fred Hand (guitarist; The Metropolitan Opera’s classical guitarist) Troy Messinger, oboe, Sera Smollen, cello, the string quartet called Ethel, Bar''s husband, Peter Schoenberger, on bass, and so many more. And the engineer who caught all of these musicians in the studio is Dave Cook whose work includes the B52s, Graham Parker and Ravi Shankar. All in all, this is an incredible assemblage of gifted musicians gathering around the unique voice of Bar Scott. If you like to be moved and touched and if you like to hum along and hear a melody you never imagined yourself, check Bar out. You won’t be disappointed.
Special note about the artwork: the photographs on the interior booklet of Parachute are wonderful shots of birds taken by Bar''s husband, Peter Schoenberger. In fact, he has taken all of the photos for the packaging, but the bird pictures are particularly poignnant and beautiful.
