Smooth harmony over an R&B / Pop groove.

POP: 90''s Pop, URBAN/R&B: R&B Pop Crossover
Put together four guys from different backgrounds, and expect an interesting result. Factor in friendship with some smooth four-part harmony over a funky R&B / pop groove and you’ve moved beyond plain interesting. The result was Blendz.
The beginning was the fall of 1990, singing at Whitmer High School in Toledo, Ohio. Rob, Don, Chris and Javan were often found singing in the bathrooms, in the hallways between classes, on the bleachers during football games – usually harmonizing some sweet 50’s remakes and a little Boyz II Men. Their first public gig together came in December of 1993 when they were asked to return home to Whitmer and headline Extravaganza, an annual talent show.
That landmark performance prompted the group to change their name to "Blendz" -- a tribute to the different qualities each member brings into their friendship and into the group.
However, Blendz became engrossed in their college experiences leaving harmonizing behind. Then, in 1996 Blendz reunited and found themselves stronger than ever with a new style and fresh songwriting. The group’s focus became original R&B/Pop songs adapted from the genre that each member enjoyed— Boyz II Men, Color Me Badd, Take Six, and Shai.
But Blendz wasn''t meant to be. At least not for two of the members, who decided to leave the group in January of 1999. The dream it seemed... was all but over.
Don and Chris were determined, however, to continue their love of music. Don moved to Charlotte, NC to be closer to Chris so that they could work together in recruiting new members and continue writing music. They changed the group''s name to ''chanjuvmynd'' and sang a few gigs for various groups in the area. But Charlotte didn''t work out for the group either. Don and Chris went their separate ways- leaving behind the music for that ''real world'' paycheck.
Blendz hopes that you enjoy the one single that they managed to create and enjoyed limited success with. It was fun while it lasted... but Blendz is no more.
Last we heard, Don is teaching in Sylvania, OH, Rob is rumored to be working on his masters degree and bartending in Toledo, OH, Javan works for the post office in Columbus, OH and Chris was last heard to be teaching in Charlotte, NC. We wish them all well.
