You may ask...
I Already have a logo? Can I use it as a favicon?
Answer: Yes. Well, maybe.
If you already have a logo, it may not work as a favicon. It may be too detailed. Many logos need to be reworked or recreated to have a pleasant appearance.
Bank of America, for example, barely gets away with being able to use their existing logo as a favicon.
See how Bank of America uses their logo for a favicon? The logo is fairly simple but it still is a little fuzzy when you shrink it down. This is to be expected. After all, the icon is only 16 x 16 pixels.
What about Photos as favicons?
No problem.
Below, I took a photograph of my nephew did some editing to create a favicon.

Photographs, existing logos, custom icons...what ever you want.
Sure, anybody can learn how to do this on their own (I did). No, the ebook isnt groundbreaking. Thats not my claim at all. Yes, this information is readily available on the internet...if you take the time to research it.
But why go through the trouble and the trial and error?
The HTML code is easy. You can find this in under 10 minutes in the search engines. Go for it. But wait. What are you going to use for an image?
Use a photo that you already have....OOPS...it doesnt look good that small. What do you do?
Ok, forget the image. Heres a couple of simple letters I can use...OOPS...its too blurry. What do you do?
Ok, now you have an image that looks good as a small icon...OOPS...its not in a format that your browser will recognize!
Ok, finally got past that. Now you know what type of file is needed...OOPS...your image editing software doesnt support the file.
Ok, youve searched the internet even more. Youve found the plug-in for Photoshop or whatever image editing software you use...OOPS...your web host doesnt support this file!!
Finally!! You think you have it right. You upload your image. You format everything correctly...OOPS...your favicon shows up in Firefox browsers but Explorer is ignoring it. Now what?
