ABOUT BILLY THOMPSON: A PRAYER FROM THE HEART
From the sands of the Carolina beaches, he grew up around
the glitz and glamour of Hollywood in his hometown, Wilmington, North Carolina. For many years he worked on the sets of movies after school as a stand-in, and worked with stars like Drew Barrymore, Gregory Hines, Debbi Allen and Samuel L. Jackson.
With a Mother as an anointed singer and a father as a pastor, Billy''s journey into music began in church. At the age of three he was singing into a microphone with his two sisters at church. By the time he was ten he was serving as the Minister of Music. In 1997, he partnered with "Queen of Gospel Music", Shirley Caesar to write the song "Nothing For My Journey," for her "Miracle in Harlem" album. This song was featured on the Fox Television Series, "Good News." In 1998, he co-wrote "The Gift" for the "Christmas with Shirley Caesar" album. This album went on to win the 2000 Grammy Award for best traditional soul gospel album. When he was 24, Billy was crowned
"Mr. African USA", competing in a pageant where he dazzled judges with his singing, piano playing, and saxophone abilities.
Though Billy Thompson has performed for audiences all over the world, his sterling musicianship and one-on-one communication is apparent in any given setting, from concert to coffeehouse. Whether with a band or solo, Thompson''s gift for improvisation and immediate rapport with the audience have been honed by a lifetime of being onstage.
