Details:
Hailing from the hills of North Carolina, THE BISCUIT BURNERS have established themselves as the complete package for acoustic entertainment. 2004 underlined this with several accolades that many artists can only dream of. In twelve short months, they were chosen as one of the select few bands to be showcased at the International Bluegrass Association Conference, performed on the legendary stage of the Ryman Auditorium with Mr. Vassar Clements , had their debut album chosen in the Top Ten Bluegrass Albums of 2004 by the Chicago Tribune, and had their song "Come On Darlin" chosen as the IPOD Hot Pick Bluegrass Song of the Year.

With the combination of their immense talent, diverse backgrounds, and youthful energy, the Biscuit Burners successfully turn the heads of everyone who cross their path. Their self-proclaimed "Fiery Mountain Music" layers intricate picking and melodious vocals in a manner that stirs visions of the classic brother and sister duets that are deep in the roots of classic country and old-time mountain music. Their refreshing, yet reimiscent sound is winning new and diverse audiences as they continue to gain exposure.

"The band has managed, to my ears anyway, to come up with their own arrestingly captivating sound-a sound that includes the old-time feel of the mountains, but incorporates many of the elements of hard-driving bluegrass as well. Their powerful and heartfelt vocals, beautiful harmonies and blistering picking make for the perfect backdrop to some killer originals. " - Dave Higgs of Nashville Public Radio and the nationally syndicated "Bluegrass Breakdown"

"The music flows like water throughout western North Carolina, and those mountain streams have spawned a joyful tidal wave in the form of the Biscuit Burners. The Asheville quintet''s debut - Fiery Mountain Music - is a magnificent collection of contemporary bluegrass and mountain music." - Bluegrass Now, April 2005

"Honest music, deliberately crafted, stunningly presented... As the gentlemen churn the musical waters with speedy sixteenth-note runs, the ladies smooth the surface with vocals that are sometimes lifting, sometimes haunting, and always distinct." - Marquee Magazine, Feb/Mar 2005

Not only do the Biscuit Burners take their Fiery Moutnain Music to America''s finest venues, but they also take their knowledge and passion for music to schools across America. In early 2004, they began an Appalchian Roots Music Schools Program, where they present the heritage of mountain music along with it''s techniques and etiqoutte. Their presentations range from history lessons to instructional lessons and are customized from students in kindergarten to high school. From Oregon to Virginia, the Biscuit Burners have introduced and inspired America''s youth in hopes to preserve this music that they have dedicated their lives to.

"We do a roots music in the schools program, and a lot of young girls have come up and told us how inspiring it is for them to see us doing this." - Mary Lucey

The Biscuit Burners are Shannon Whitworth (clawhammer banjo, acoustic guitar, vocals), Mary Lucey (acousit bass, vocals), Bill Cardine (resphonic guitar, vocals), John Stickley (mandolin), and Dan Bletz (acoustic guitar).
