June 2009; Capsicum Records LLC debuts with "Reggae-in-Fusion Album #1":

Capsicum Records LLC, a new independent, internet-driven recorded music company, announced its inaugural release, Reggae-In-Fusion Album #1, a compilation album featuring original songs performed by label principal Sal Anthony and six talented Hartford-based artists, “Sledge” (Courtney Whyte), Bernard “Burnie T” Terrell, Jr, Ardiwa “Cuban Cohiba” Wallace, Camille “Misteree” Tomlinson-Ismail, Mayyah Stuart and Natasha Redding.

The creative principals of Capsicum include Roger Meltzer, label CEO/A&R Director and songwriter-producer-arranger; Osborne "Ifield" Joseph, Executive Producer, studio engineer, musician/songwriter/arranger, and Music Director of label concerts, and Sal Anthony, artist-songwriter, musician-producer-arranger and Promotion and Marketing VP.

“At Capsicum, it’s about the song, and then matching each song to a promising artist.” says Meltzer. “We believe that by writing “hooky,” melodic songs with something to say, putting infectious, “rootsy,” reggae grooves under them, and then coloring them with the traditional (“old school”) feel, instruments, musical licks and vocal flavors of other genres, our records will appeal to the crossover fan-base of those markets as well as to reggae lovers. Our audience and market will therefore span a very wide global demographic, from students to baby boomers, multiple ethnic groups and music preferences.”

Meltzer was recently interviewed by a number of Hartford radio deejays in conjunction with the release of the CD. Meltzer has been the guest of BUSY 103.3-FM (https://www.tradebit.com) deejays Andrew Matrix, Black Ice, Sasha and Lady J, all of whom regularly play different songs from the album.

"I''m always asked when our CDs will be in stores, and I explain we are going strictly digital with downloads from our website, https://www.tradebit.com." says Meltzer. "You can listen to all our songs and download the entire album or just the singles you like. Also, there is always one featured song you can download for free, and since we change the featured song every few weeks, you can get them all for free if you check out the website regularly. The website also has bios for each of our artists, how the songs were produced, the lyrics to the songs, and a link to send in fan mail," he said.

"I''m also asked why I''m writing in reggae now after starting out at the Sound of Philadelphia and have a history in R&B, Pop, Country and Gospel. The short answer is that I love reggae, and find it so easy to infuse it with all my other favorite genre''s - it''s the perfect base for me to express my full range - and that''s where we came up with our unique ''reggae-in-fusion'' sound - roots on the bottom and pop on the top."

In his latest interview with West Indian Rhythms deejay Magnum at WWUH 91.3 FM (https://www.tradebit.com), Meltzer explained how Capsicum is a song-driven label that gives artists a great deal, "They sign up for one or more songs - they don''t have to sign an exclusive contract and they don''t pay any production costs. Best of all, they get royalties from the first song we sell; other labels typically pay artists an upfront fee to cover their recording costs and then they never see another dime. What looks like a cash advance is a loan they can’t repay." One of the album''s principal songwriters and producers, Meltzer also explained that he started the label to control his songs and to get his own copyright and production royalties as well.

In addition to seeking mainstream radio airplay, another question asked is what''s next for Capsicum? The label''s new sound has generated invitations from promoters to perform a special one-hour Capsicum segment, pending corporate sponsorship, in the following major concerts this summer featuring widely renowned artists from many musical genres:

-- A Moment in Time benefit concert at the Brooklyn Academy of Music''s Gilman Opera House, Friday, July 17
-- The New England Music Festival at Bushnell Park in Hartford, CT, Saturday, August 1
-- Irie Jamboree at Roy Williams Park in Queens NY, Sunday, September 6.

Capsicum welcomed the Sheraton Hartford as a sponsor of the New England Music Festival , and is actively seeking additional major corporate sponsors. The Capsicum segment will feature the Capsicum-Paco All-Star "Emergency" Band and members of the label''s artist roster. Meltzer explains, "Our main job now is to finalize sponsors for each concert to pay our share of the advertising and venue costs, since it is the established headliners like Beres Hammond who are filling the seats. Hopefully we will take off and become part of the draw for next year."

According to Delroy Carroll, CEO of Solar Entertainment and co-promoter of the first two concerts, "Just listened to the material on my way home - really great productions - tracks are solid and the sound is fresh. This should do well."

Rob Schustack, reggae promotion specialist and Director of Acquisitions for The Orchard, called the songs on the debut album "stellar."

Here''s what Erin Bukofsky of Bryan Farrish Radio Promotion had to say:

" Take Me There" (Sledge) - An upbeat yet laid back track with a rhythm that instantly grabs the listener. Sledge''s vocals are silky smooth and the harmonies are beautiful.

"Exactly" (Sal Anthony) - A romantic song with a fun tempo. This track is perfect for an uplifting dance with a loved one.

"Born on Third Base"(Cuban Cohiba) - A great rhythm that gets the body grooving, with an important lyrical message speaking of the head start that is allotted to the privileged.

"Life''s Too Short"(Mayyah Stuart) - An easy-going tempo with a catchy chorus. The multiple male and female vocals create a resonant tone to the the track and blend nicely with the instrumentation.
"Just As I Am"(Misteree) - Misteree''s strong rich vocals are ear-catching and show an impressive range. The bridge is captivating and the chorus melody is beautiful.

"You Stood by My Side"(Natasha Redding & Burnie Terrell) - the male and female vocals complement each other and smoothly mesh together. The flowing rhythm is emphasized by notable instrumental performances.

Danny Koppel, Founder & CEO, Wildcard Management, NY, NY:

"Went onto the website yesterday. Your stuff is sounding amazing. That''s a very good record, my friend. I am going to everything in my power to make this happen."
