Details:
Porterfield Rose was formed in late 2008 and consists of Lovancy Ingram, Spike Ingram, Marcel Miner, and Jeff Phelps. Each of the members have strong individual musical backgrounds and bring a unique combination of instruments (violin, clarinet, guitar, bass, keyboards, and sax) to the project. Several factors influenced the formation of Porterfield Rose, not the least of which was the combination of the sound of Lovancy''s violin and Spike''s'' clarinet, accompanied by Jeff on piano during a during an impromptu performance a somber ceremony that summer. Around that same time, via the power of email and the internet, Jeff happened to reconnect with a childhood friend, Dena Eakles, who hosts benefits and concerts on her farm in Wisconsin. Her mission at Echo Valley Farm is to promote sustainable living, and, as some might say, save the world. The instruments and music Jeff had in mind for the as-yet-unnamed group seemed to fit the profile of the bands that Dena routinely hosted for events at Echo Valley. One of the goals for Porterfield Rose is to perform at an Echo Valley Farm event during 2010. Looking to add the perfect bass player to the group, Jeff contacted his long-time friend and former band mate from Penn State in the ''70s, Marcel Miner. Collaborating with Marcel after all these years led to a pleasant surprise. Although he primarily played bass in the band at Penn State, he was now equally adept on guitar, which added tremendously to "Echos Of A Rose". Songs written in the future for the group will take fuller advantage of his guitar work, but it is represented to nice effect on this effort. Porterfield Rose was complete.
