Fact: The city of Tucson, Arizona, was the inspiration for the re-launch of Inchworm Records. So it’s only fitting for the label to release a compilation filled with some of the best bands from the area. And we think they''ve done just that with the "Desert Mountain District" compilation CD.

The story: Greg Bateman, head of Inchworm Records, spent most of 2005 and 2006 in Tucson. The label, originally started in 1994, had closed its doors in 1998 after 9 vinyl releases. Although the label had been inactive for a number of years, Bateman never considered the label dead. “I put it my pocket and was saving it for a rainy day,” Bateman said.

During a visit to Tucson in February of 2005, he found his inspiration and the idea of getting the label up and running again hit him. He had discovered a city with a thriving music scene. The problem, in his opinion, was that there was a shortage of labels. As a result, not enough people outside of the city knew about the wonderful music that was coming out of Tucson.

Bateman decided that putting together a compilation of local music was the next step. He felt this would be the best way to document, support and spread the word about the Tucson scene.

The result: The “Desert Mountain District” compilation is an eclectic collection of music from some of the very best bands in the city of Tucson. The album features a mix of unreleased, rare and previously released album tracks.

The bands: The American Black Lung, Found Dead on the Phone, Chango Malo, The Crowd, La Cerca, The Provocative Whites, The Swim, The Jons, George Squier Orchestra, Bark Bark Bark, Love Mound, Winelord, The Matrix 2: The Legend of Curly’s Gold, Golden Boots and Bombs for the Bored.

We think they’ve represented the city of Tucson well. We hope you do, too.
