My name is Bess James. I am 21 years old and hold dual citizenship in the USA and Canada. Music is my passion. Along with my passion comes a vision, and along with my vision comes a determination to succeed. My life-long infatuation with poetry, rhythm and sound has culminated in the songs that I write.
Along with music, languages have also been at the center of my attention. I am fluent in French and Spanish and have completed a first year Italian course at Dalhousie University (fall of 2006 will be my fourth year there).
I have completed several years of training at the Toronto Conservatory of Music. For the past couple of years, I have been a proud vocal student of Elaine Overholt (https://www.tradebit.com), vocal coach for the Oscar Award Winning Film “Chicago”. Elaine has encouraged me to combine my interests in language and music, and has given me the confidence to compose.
I wrote the lyrics and co-wrote the music to the 6 original songs on my EP entitled Kissing in the Dark with producer Greg Kavanagh (https://www.tradebit.com). I had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented musicians in Toronto, and it was a truly pleasurable experience. It is for sale right here on CD BABY!!!
I am one of 3 girls in the Toronto trio TAKE THREE. Together, we have recorded Christmas songs with SONY/BMG in the USA and Universal Canada that were placed on compilation CDs. We had the honor of being on these discs with such artists as Jan Arden, Diana Krall, Anne Murray, Michael Bolton, etc. We have performed on Toronto live to air radio shows such as The Mix 99.9, EZ Rock 97.3 and CFRB 1010, as well as The Gilda Radner benefit at The Princess of Wales Theatre and John McDermott’s annual Christmas concert at Roy Thomson Hall.
I am a young new artist. My music is soulful, jazz-like and fresh. It holds the key to a revitalizing sound that is captivating the curiosity of people of all ages.
