Details:
Phantom limbs is a result of tireless touring and performing around the country, while having off the cuff sessions in multiple studios, with some of Matt''s favorite producers, and musicians. The energy of the record was set by a trip to Boston, to record with Andy Hong. It ended up being more days of racing motorcycles through the country. Then writing, performing, and recording 6 songs in 2 days with drummer Chad Zammuto. The tone was set... "Music is a celebration and a way for people to creatively sync up while reminding us to be fearless, creative, and share experiences."

Matt was then off to do some other performances musically, and as a live stunt man, in which he dislocated and broke 2 fingers on his left hand just before taking off to do some shows in the south. During those shows, he loved the simplicity of the music with his new "handicap"... it gave room for collaboration, harmonies, and other instrumentation. Thus getting in the studio with Russ-t Cobb and his dear friends Claire Campbell and Count Kellam (playing saws, singing harmonies) in Atlanta.

Returning back to Oakland, the recordings had a great energy and spontaneous edge to them, Matt worked with Charlie Wilson at Sonic Zen Records to complete what he''d started. In the process writing and recording more and more music. "The record was supposed to be a 5 song ep. When we looked at the tracks to see what we''d recorded, there were over 30 complete songs. We then narrowed it down to 13."

"Phantom Limbs" is a reminder of the skills and experiences that artists build through practice and experience... they''re always around us, constantly protect us, and take up zero space. Some call it baggage, but they''re part of our souls.
