Details:
“Paper Cranes”, the debut EP from the dynamic Brisbane duo, features six original compositions crafted by Macklin & Newcomb. With titles such as “Skeletons”, “Butterfly Beats” and the title track, “Paper Cranes”, the EP is a window into a world of stunning visual imagery, painted with colourful, poetic lyrics and sultry sonic depth, ranging from the dark and seductive to the sweetly child-like. Powerful songwriting is matched with stellar musicianship; layered on top are pockets of sound, bursting and buzzing with energy. Pulsing through the entire six tracks is a thread of beauty found in many things – nature, people and practices – and how this beauty brings hope.
Macklin’s bell-like, agile elastic vocals stretch and steer their way through each song, colouring each moment in a different light, whilst Newcomb deftly shifts between an ethereal, spacious ballad, to a lilting Rhodes lullaby, to hard grooving percussive piano: their musical connection, which is stunning to witness live, is captured here on record. Co-Co-produced by Paulie B, the Aria-award winning producer of Brissie band “George” fame, the “Paper Cranes” EP is drenched in sonic goodness.
