HIP HOP/RAP: Hip Hop, ELECTRONIC: Breakbeat/Breaks

Details:
In the early to mid-nineties ArmBuster Lewis, then known as Kaashif, was half of Brooklyn based Hip Hop duo, Urban Hermits. As owners of a small project recording studio, Urban Hermits worked and rehearsed with several local and underground acts, most notably, The BoogieMonsters. In just a few short years they went from just owning and running a studio, to arranging and producing their own material. Soon after, Lewis started experimenting with Downtempo, Drum and Bass, as well as Breakbeat.

Fast forward to new millenium status and Lewis has put together one of his versions of what Hip Hop music is. With influences like The Bomb Squad, Bernard Purdy, J. Dilla and Kraftwerk, one can start to see that rhythm is a significant part of what makes up ArmBuster Lewis. It''s the sounds of tight, punchy drums with smoldering basslines and ecclectic sonic dressings that push the concept of this EP. Interpretations of vibe-provoking sounds and tightly played push-and-pull breaks is the science that he pursues. Vinyl affiliated textures and bitchless beats are unified to sonic wealth.

He tends to call it beatness...
