"... angelic singer, infectious songs." Hits Magazine

Amy Atchley grew up singing and performing in her hometown of Houston, TX. While the other neighborhood kids were selling lemonade, Amy was selling tickets to her performances on a make shift stage in her back yard.

Amy began singing in the church choir at 3 years old. She took lessons in piano, viola, and cornet, but always wanted to be the singer. Starting in the 5th grade, Amy attended arts magnet schools for her music, and continued with her studies through middle school, where her training for professional singing began taking shape. Amy wrote her first song at age 5 and has been writing lyrics set to music since then. In the 1990s, Amy attended the University of Texas in Austin, earning her BA in vocal performance. During this time, she was invited to study voice in Italy at Verdi''s Cantate, a classical vocal performance program where she studied voice and Italian and also concertized in the Emilia Romano region. She was a member of the elite Ensemble 109 that was cherry picked from the UT student body and was comprised of 14 singers. This group was Amy''s introduction to the commercial-pop world. Through this group, she met producer Gary Powell, who hired her to perform on several of Walt Disney''s sing-along catalogues including Dick Tracy, Little Mermaid, Lion King, and Pocahontas. Amy starred as the soprano in the Austin Ballet''s Rhapsody of the Soul, in which Mr. Powell composed specifically with Amy in mind. She also was the featured voice for Matel''s Barbie Girl Games CD ROMs.

All the while, Amy continued writing songs, and began performing and writing with acclaimed acts Hush and Fabu. She cultivated a sensual voice and inspired lyrics with a powerful stage presence through her extensive touring and writing. The Houston Press writes, ". . . a showcase performance to melt hearts and stimulate intellects . . . hints of Edie Brickell''s fresh faced charm, an inverted sprinkle of Tori Amos'' esotericism and the rush of Veruca Salt''s urgency." Amy''s experiences with Hush and Fabu led to her solo debut, Speeding. Mike Emery of The Dallas Met describes Speeding as, "a well-textured piece of work that combines elements of pop and folk with smart hooks ... using vibrant tones and a sensuous release, her style conveys an alluring blend of innocence and wit." Produced by an eclectic group, each acclaimed in their own right (Mark Addison, Govinda, and Mark Hallman, producers), Speeding is a powerful, hypnotic blend of heavenly melodies and revealing lyrics. A host of some of Austin''s best and most diverse musicians like drummer JJ Johnson, bassists George Reiff and Edwin Livingston, guitar players Ron Welch and David Pulkingham, and violinist Govinda assisted Amy on this release.

In 2000, Amy, one of Austin''s most closely-guarded musical treasures, packed her bags and headed off to New York City with husband/saxophone great Elias Haslanger, and their Weimaraner, Oscar and their cats, Baci and June Bug. Since that time she has performed extensively in the local music scene and has developed a strong presence in that community. She has shared showcases with Angie Aparo, Jessie Harris, Amy Rigby, Carey Pierce (Jacopierce), Ani DeFranco, Ron Sexsmith, Abra Moore, Charlie Sexton, Terri Hendrix, David Garza, Michael Fracasso, and more. She has been selected as a performing artist at both SXSW & CMJ music conferences. Amy''s success in promoting her debut EP Speeding, resulted in her song In Memory being featured on the 2001 BMI New Music Sampler. She has recorded demos in New York City with critically acclaimed producer Chicky of Clive Davis'' Jive Records. Amy is currently working with producer Steve Walsh to release her 2nd CD due out this summer. This CD will feature a parade of hits with some of NYC''s finest musicians including Sean Pelton, Dan Reiser, Whynot, John Deley, and Nicolas Schubeck to mention but a few.
