ESENCIA DE MUJER, LATIN WOMEN IN MUSIC AND HISTORY is Alexandra marie´s tribute to the famous latin women composers represented in latin traditional folk music. Chabuca Granda, from Peru, Maria Grever, from Mexico; Chiquinha Gonzaga, with "O abre alas", the first song from the brazilian carnival and the first women to conduct an orchestra in Brazil. also includes famous songs like "Alma Llanera" from venezuela, and from the renown cuban composer, Ernesto lecuona, Maria la O.
the cd has been sung in its original language, spanish, but includes english translations in the cd booklet. the cd is now been idistributed in the united states.
a native from argentina, this argentinean- american lyric singer has shown since childhood, a great potential as an artist and a singer. she began her career in music by taking guitar lessons at the age of 8 years old. as a teen ager, she joined "the santa coloma choir" in buenos aires, and toured with this singing ensemble throughout south america. in 1985, she attended the "juan jose castro conservatory", where she studied choral conducting with the argentinean maestro antonio russo.
in 1990, she arrived in the united states where she continued her education, receiving scholarships from both the new world school of the arts/ mdcc and later florida international university. in 1991, she participated in the "asti sister''s city exchange program", performing and traveling throughout italy. alexandra marie became the winner of the1995 miami nats competition (national association of teachers of singing). she received her bachelor''s degree in music and voice performance from fiu in 1996.
while studying in south florida, alexandra marie performed extensively and received recognition not only as a soloist but also as an educator. she has appeared with symphony orchestras such as the coral spring pops, the hallandale pops and sang with local zarzuela (spanish operetta) companies, such as "grateli", "hispanic lyric theater" and "classical concerts" among others. she performed for in new york at "the orenzal foundation" featuring latin american composers, such as ginastera, guastavino and villalobos. she has sung roles such as the countess in "the marriage of figaro" and poulanc''s "dialogue of the carmelites", a spanish version of"amahl and the night visitors". alexandra marie sang for the president of argentina, carlos menem, at fiu''s "doctorate honoris causa" ceremony. she appeared in july, 1999, at the pro player stadium to sing the american national anthem during the baseball game between the florida marlins and the devil rays.
in the education field, she has conducted the "saint joseph''s choir" in the unesco-disney production of the song "peace in the heart", featured in eurodisney for the ''97 children summit, france. alexandra is developing the performing seminar "traveling south america with a song" presenting this program through broward arts in education and cultural affairs, florida. she is currently music and chorus director at palm cove elementary, pembroke pines, florida.
in recent years, alexandra marie began composing; she has received an "honorable mention" in the 2002 john lennon songwriting contest for her son "olvidame/just let me go" .
in march 2003, during women international day, alexandra marie presented the tribute "latin american women in music and history", in the tower theater, miami. this showed was sponsored by the miami dade community college, the citi bank among others.

Nacida en buenos aires, esta joven y versátil cantante lirica ha demostrado desde muy joven su inclinación por la música. ya siendo adolescente se unió al “coral de todos los tiempos”, dirigido por sara santa coloma, con el cual realizó giras por sud america. en argentina, alexandra marie comenzó sus estudios musicales de dirección coral junto al maestro antonio russo (conservatorio juan jose castro), perfeccionándose en canto con ana sirulnik y el maestro gustavo valerio, como tambien realizó estudios de actuación en el teatro colón de buenos aires, realizando actuaciones en dicho teatro y junto al “taller de opera argentino”, dirigido por oscar gálvez. en el área pedagógica, la cantante fue la fundadora del “coro de colegio mallinkrodt”, como tambien del colegio “jesus maría”, del cual es egresada.
dado su gran potencial vocal, alexandra marie arriva en 1990 a los estados unidos gracias a una beca de la “new world school of the arts” en miami, para así continuar con sus estudios musicales. en dicho conservatorio, la cantante estudia junto a la mezzo joy davidson y el maestro de repertorio cliff jackson. a su vez tiene la oportunidad de participar de diferentes producciones operáticas en las cuales realiza los roles de la condesa de “las bodas de figaro”, bajo la dirección del maestro willie walters, (florida grand opera), como así tambien de la versión en español de “amahl and the night visitors”, https://www.tradebit.como parte de sus estudios realiza una gira por italia, y en 1994 gana la competencia vocal de la asociación nacional de maestros vocales, en miami. luego de lograr su “asociates in arts” de la nwsa, alexandra marie es becada por la universidad interancional de la florida, fiu, en la cual participa de diversos festivales musicales, obteniendo en 1996 su licenciatura en música e interpretación vocal.
en miami, alexandra marie no sólo ha recibido reconocimiento como artista sino que ha realizado una extensa labor educativa. esta joven interprete ha realizado innumerables conciertos dentro de la comunidad con companías como grateli, hispanic american theatre y classical concerts, como tambien a participado en zarzuelas y teatro musical. en 1996, alexandra marie ha promovido la música sudamericana, interpretando a ginastera y guastavino, en un recital efectuado en los estados de nueva york, georgia y south carolina, patrocinado por la organización orenzal, ny. en 1997, la cantante argentina graba su primer cd reflejando su verastilidad y capacidad para abarcar diferentes estilos como idiomas, y que incluye temas de su repertorio com opera, broadway, zarzuela y teatro musical, como tambien una versión original de “what i did for love”, de la obra de broadway “chorus line”, compuesta en español por la misma artista. en el área educativa, alexandra marie a dirigido la grabacion de “peace in the heart” junto al coro infantil de colegio san jose de miami, producción realizada por eurodisney para el día internacional del niño en francia. alexandra marie alterna su actividad artística conjuntamente con la de directora musical y coral de la escuela “palm cove elementary”, en pembroke pines, florida.
alexandra marie ha cantado los respectivos himnos de argentina y usa en la universidad fiu, con motivo de la ceremonia en la cual el presidente argentino, carlos saúl menem, fue conferido de su “doctorate honoris causa”(1999). entre otros creditos, ha cantado el himno americano “star spangled-banner” frente a más de 10.000 “fans” en el estadio “pro players” ( miami), en la apertura del partido de baseball entre los florida marlins vs. los devil rays. recientemente, ha representado al personaje de de beatriz en la zarzuela “lola cruz” con la companía pro arte grateli, como tambien ha participado del ciclo del mes de la hispanidad en broward county, amaturo theater, broward center for the performing arts.
entre sus mas recientes emprendimientos artísticos, alexandra marie a comenzado en los ultimos años a incursionar en la composición y en explorar nuevos generos musicales. unos de sus más recientes logros en este campo es el de haber recibido una mención honorable por su canción “olvidame/just let me go” en el 2002 john lennon songwriting contest, nueva york.
