Angela Birkhead-Flight is the Director of Music at St. Martin of Tours Church in Cincinnati, OH, and is the founder of the city-wide Psallité Children''s Chorus (https://www.tradebit.com). This album was created to commemorate the departure of St. Martin''s pastor, Fr. George Kunkel, as a way for him to remember the parish.
Many of the songs are dedicated in memory of parishioners; please pray for them as you listen. In one year, St. Martin''s lost three staff members: Kathy Schmidt, our youth minister who died of cancer at the age of 42, Fr. Robert Mick, a past pastor who was living at the parish, and Deacon Howard Wiehe, our deacon. That same year, Fr. Kunkel lost both of his parents.
This past year we lost the lovely Ann Kroner, who was a musician in her own right, and one of her songs is included on the album. Forever Love was played at her funeral by her children (all musicians) and the lyrics were added later. We also lost the ever so young Brent Keeton to leukemia. We thought he was going to make it and he was so close. "You Are Near" was sung at his funeral by the Youth Choir of St. Martin''s.
The money used to manufacture the CD was donated, and the recording engineer, Mark Hingsbergen of ROMANS, donated his time as well, so every cent we receive from sales goes to support the non-profit Psallité Children''s Chorus.
