Details:
The Distant Sun and the Attic Dreamer is the debut CD by Providence husband-and-wife duo Justin Capaldi and Kristen Falso, a.k.a. Anna''s House. In the self-released collection are such songs as "Sadness Crept," a fast number about our tendency to let sadness get the best of us. "The words to this one literally popped into my head one night," says Falso. "I was reading a chapter in a text about depression; I''m not sure if that had anything to do with it." Another number, "Sweet" is a "look back at a time in our lives when we felt small - in school, at work or whatever - and the relief in understanding we have moved beyond that point," says Capaldi. "A lot of our songs follow this theme." The same is true for the CD''s title. The Distant Sun and the Attic Dreamer is actually a line from one of the cuts on the CD, "Someday We''ll Meet". "This is a song about the people who we consider to be beyond our reach. They are the distant suns; we are left dreaming about them. That line subtly unifies all of the songs on the CD," says Falso.

A twenty-year musician, Capaldi is best known for his guitar playing in Boy on Fire, a mid-eighties Clash-inspired band, and drums in Alley Sway, a mid-nineties band he formed with his sister and a childhood friend. Capaldi also played drums with the Itchies in the mid-nineties and currently has been playing with The Marlowes (drums and guitar). Falso describes herself as a frustrated writer who has been looking for "the right place" to express her creative thoughts. She found that place when she and Capaldi began dating in 1998. She had not sung professionally prior to Anna''s House, but adds that she was a "chorus geek" during her adolescent years and sang "a solo that is best forgotten" in the high school talent show. "It involved a neon-pink dress and very, very big hair," recalls Falso. Helping out on the CD is Anthony Franco (keyboard player for the mid- 80''s band " The Shake ") on piano and keyboards. The duo recorded all tracks on a Roland home recording system in their Providence home, then shipped it off to Phoenix Arizona to be mixed by Scott Seymann of Headpop Productions. The CD was mastered by Toby Mountain of Southboro, Massachusetts.

Capaldi and Falso began writing songs together in the winter of 1999, and were married the following year. All of the songs were recorded in their Providence home, which they bought in 2000...from a woman named Anna.
