Matt Brown is best known as the driving force behind the late great Atlanta bands Uncle Green and 3 lb. Thrill. He then loaned his production skills and musicianship to friend Michael Wescott, a songwriter from Columbia, South Carolina. They called this unholy alliance Amphibian Skin, and their debut album ELEVEN EMERGENCY LESSONS.
Other musicians on the album include 3 lb. Thrill drummer Pete McDade and harmonica master Jeff Jensen, Sightseers and Swimming Pool Q''s bassist Tim DeLaney, and Los Angeles-via-Columbia organist Les Hall, who composes scores for National Geographic Explorer and is currently touring with Trey Anastasio.
With visions of the Zombies, Beatles, Kinks, Brian Wilson and Big Star in their heads, the album was recorded in the Swimming Pool Q''s practice space, where the musicians ran amok with Jeff Calder''s prodigious collection of vintage instruments. They were then off to Rob Gal''s legendary Snack n Shack studios to mix some sense out of it.
Wescott and Brown have since relocated to New York City, where they hope to complete their sophomore slump in 2005.
