Details:
Truly living out the lyrics to their 1982 pop classic “Sweet Dreams,” Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock principals in the famed 80’s hit making duo Air Supply celebrated their 30 year partnership in 2005 with a couple of exciting firsts. Earlier in the year, they released "It Was 30 Years Ago Today,” their first live DVD Recording, to great acclaim. They are currently capping that off with The Singer and The Song, Air Supply’s very first all-acoustic project.
The Singer and The Song features the duo’s familiar cavalcade of hits (including “All Out of Love,” “Lost In Love “The One That You Love” and “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All”) done as vocal-guitar duets, recorded in one take each with no overdubs.
The collection also features “Yours Truly,” their popular crowd-pleasing song from their 2000 album of the same name, and “Love and Other Bruises,” Air Supply’s first big Australian hit from the late 70s.
The project came together very spontaneously one day last August, when Hitchcock was up in Park City, Utah (where Russell lives) and the two performed with the Utah Symphony at Deer Valley Resort. “We had never done an acoustic record before, and one afternoon we just said, "Why not? Let’s do it,’” says Russell. “The next day, we gathered around a microphone in my studio with my guitar and our two voices. We did all twelve tracks in one afternoon. The charm of the whole project was the spontaneity. With most projects, we talk about it and plan everything, but this time was more exciting because we had no idea what to expect.
“We titled it after what it was, The Singer and The Song, because that’s exactly what the album is, just the songs, presented live and organically,” he adds. “It’s raw, but there is a beautiful serenity to it as well.”
Inspired by the success of their just-released live DVD recording, Russell and Hitchcock thought it would be fun to give their fans a visual chronicle of the special day in the studio, so they called a friend of theirs to film four tracks in High Definition video. The resulting DVD is included in the packaging of the album.
Now, with the release of The Singer and The Song, “Airheads”, their affectionate term for their legions of fans worldwide, can hear this famed duo present their hits in this unique and intimate way.
