Details:
"I''d like to believe that things won''t change.
They will.
I''d like to believe our paths won''t strain.
They will.
I''d like to believe my fears won''t stay.
They will."

These words represent a time of growth, the leaving of home, a theme that inspired many songs on Sam Newcomer''s newest project, Everything After Flight. The album, which was written and recorded following Sam''s first year at college, marks musical change and personal change.

Musically, Everything After Flight hovers over several genres, never settling on a particular one. Opener "The History," stories from Sam''s recent visit to New York City, draws influence from early Bob Dylan, while "Departure" is an unashamed, textbook pop song. "99" is an instrumental mishmash of samples and reverb-heavy vocals. The album also experiments with first-person narratives. "Young Doctor" parallels a relationship with God to a relationship between a young doctor and his wife, sung from her point of view. "Progress" is performed by "the last criminal on Earth," in the case that every other thief, murderer, and slave master abandoned his/her ways.

Many songs showcase a deep personal change in the songwriter as well. "From a Stranger," the album''s "title track," describes Sam''s process in finding a new church in Nashville, TN. Its words remark that no matter how uninspired or afraid one may become, love and encouragement can always be found amongst people, even strangers. Sam discusses in "Stagnancy" the topic of seclusion and what self-imposed obstacles keep him from God. Do the same obstacles hold you back?

Everything After Flight is, at its core, a catalog of observations and experiences spanning from August 2008 to June 2009. Change is feared by so many, but as these songs show, the results of change can be miraculous.
