Two years after the release of their critically acclaimed debut album “Sonic Bloom”, The Hoa Hoa’s (pronounced ‘wah wahs’) are set to release their sophomore album “Pop/Drone/Pedals” (P/D/P) on Dec 1, 2009.
Where Sonic Bloom was acclaimed as “one of the finer recent psychedelic albums” (Pop Matters) and a “magic rock ride loaded with layers of reverb” (Chart Attack), fans and critics alike will be happy to know that they can expect further maturing from a band that has their sights on becoming one of the best psychedelic-pop outfits. P/D/P consists of 13 tracks that illustrate their song-writing maturation and a stronger command of their instrumental capabilities.
‘Postcards’ exhibits a gritty underground dance vibe; ‘Vinyl Richie’ is a true multi-layered psych gem; ‘Waves’ offers stunning vocals; ‘Intensity’ is pure punk angst and ‘Grew Up On The Seeds’ has been anticipated by fans ever since the late Sky Saxon joined them on stage for a live rendition of the song during 2009’s SxSW festival.
The Hoa Hoa’s – Femke Berkhout, Lee Brochu, Calvin Brown and Richie Volume – think they’re on the path to becoming better musicians. “The support we’ve seen amongst our peers and the feedback we’ve received from music lovers around the world makes the pursuit that much easier. I think we’ve made a record that will please our supporters and make many new fans” says guitarist and vocalist Lee Brochu.
